The Oscars paid tribute to theJames Bondfranchise with a musical montage, but many fans found they were left unshaken but definitely stirred as they slammed the production for being “pointless,” “cringey,” and “completely unnecessary.”
Many fans had been hoping that the tribute would involve the unveiling of a new James Bond…and were left frustrated when that did not happen. The montage was opened byThe Substancestar Margaret Qualley, who channeled her character from the movie, Sue, and took part in a dance number performed to theJames Bondtheme. Qualley danced with more than a dozen Bond-esque dancers before giving way to musical performances from Doja Cat, BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Raye, who sang “Diamonds Are Forever,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Skyfall,” respectively. While the performances were perfectly adequate, and praised by the respective fans of the stars involved, Bond fans were left cold by the whole thing.

Daniel Craig vs. Sean Connery: Who Was the Better James Bond?
Daniel Craig and Sean Connery are considered two of the greatest actors to ever play James Bond. But which one did it better?
One viewer commented, “The Oscars take place very late in the U.K. so I hardly watch it. But it feels incredibly cringey and that Bond ensemble was downright awkward to watch.” Many were not happy with some iconic songs being performed by anyone other than the original singers. One fumed, “Yikes! The tribute to James Bond demonstrates just how much better the original singers were. ‘Diamonds are Forever’ in particular was excreable!” Another user followed the same sentiment, noting that if you are doing an iconic James Bond song, you need to get the iconic original singer to perform it where possible.

“What was the point of that awful James Bond charade. I mean please at least give us Adele if you’re going to do Skyfall.”
For those who did not complain about the performances, there was still the length of the tribute to be moaned about. As someone put it, “Fell asleep for 25 minutes, and they were still doing theJames Bondtribute at the Oscars. Like who is this for lmao.”

Why Did the Oscars Pay Tribute to James Bond?
The tribute came at a strange time, with the Bond franchise undergoing several behind-the-scenes changesnow that it is an Amazon Studios property. Of course, there is also the question of who will be taking over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig, with almost every actor in Hollywood being a potential candidate at some point or another. While the news of Amazon’s creative takeover of the franchise overshadowed casting talk for a while, it is still very much at the forefront of many people’s thoughts.
The main reason for the tribute to the Bond franchise seemed to be solely forthe work of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilsonover their lengthy tenure of the 007 story. Many fans clearly expected a little more than what they received, but in the end, we were never about to find out who the next James Bond is. However, there were those who would have clearly preferred to see the Best Original Song get a run out instead of the “weird” Bond tribute.
