On several occasions, the filmmaker has had to deny information provided by insiders regarding what he and Safran are building for Warner Bros. Discovery, even when some reports have been correct, such as David Corenswet being one of the great candidates to become the new Man of Steel. And now, once again, Gunn responds on social media to recent rumors related toSuperman: Legacy.

In August, insider Daniel RPK revealed that part of the film’s plot would focus on a conflict in the Middle East. This month, scooper ViewerAnon seemed to confirm this informationby sharing more details:

Superman Legacy

“Superman’s early in his career and isn’t widely known. His big public reveal happens in the Middle East, where terrorists have gotten hold of Kryptonian tech. Waller and Sam Lane send in the Authority to investigate - they believe Superman is responsible. Superman learned of the tech in the Fortress of Solitude and hopes it will be the missing puzzle piece to discover where he comes from.”

Gunn has finally addressed all these rumors, debunking the alleged plot by answering a fan on Instagram:

James Gunn Teases Superman: Legacy’s Tone

Superman, like Batman, is a character that has been played by many actors and that has had many directors and writers working on their stories, so there have been many versions of the Last Son of Krypton. When it comes to the big screen iterations of the character, Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill provided the two most loved versions, even though they both brought something very different to the role.

While Reeve’s had a much lighter tone, and was even at times comical, Cavill’s was very solemn and dark, something that was taken to another level with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. It seems that David Corenswet’s will be a mix of both. Also through Instagram, Gunn revealed that his film will have dark moments and lighter ones, like most movies and life:

At the moment, Gunn has not revealed any official details about the plot ofSuperman: Legacy, but finding a balance between the dark tone that Zack Snyder presented withMan of SteelandBatman v Superman, with the lightness and innocence of Reeve’s Clark Kent is possibly the best path to take to attempt to please avery demanding and unforgiving fan base. Having watched the last days of the old DC franchise collapse in a wheezing heap as we approach the release ofAquaman and the Lost Kingdom,Gunn will be hoping to see the new DCU rise like a phoenix and soar like…well, Superman should.
