We’re still a couple of weeks out from the premiere ofFreakier Fridayon August 8, but asJamie Lee Curtiswas celebrating the world premiere of the sequel earlier this week, she all but confirmed that one of TV’s most iconic characters will be returning. Curtis stars in the new Disney flick along with Lindsay Lohan, with both stars reprising their roles from the 2003 comedy.

Walking the red carpet at theFreakier Fridaypremiere at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, Curtis was approached by Entertainment Weekly and asked about the recent rumorsthat she’d be portraying Jessica Fletcherin aMurder, She Wrotereboot. Word broke late last year that a film project was in the works that would see the return of the beloved Cabot Cove sleuth, who was originally portrayed by the late Angela Lansbury in the classic TV series. All that was just rumor and innuendo until now though, as Curtis confirmed that the project is a go:

“Oh it’s happening. We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

‘Freakier Friday’ First Reactions Reveal If Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan’s Comeback Was Worth the Wait

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite for a body-swapping comedy that’s earning early praise.

No stranger to the grind, those things Curtis has to “hustle” are not only the premiere ofFreakier Friday, but the upcoming survival thriller,The Lost Bus. Starring Matthew McConaughey, the film follows a bus driver who has to navigate a bus carrying children and their teacher to safety through the 2018 Camp Fire in Butte County, which became the deadliest fire in California history. Curtis serves as an executive producer on the movie, which is slated to premiere at TIFF in September.

Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote

What is ‘Murder, She Wrote’ About?

Hitting the airwaves back in 1984 and lasting all the way up until 1996,Murder, She Wroteis the classic CBS crime series that starred Lansbury as retired English teacher-turned-writer Jessica Fletcher. Despite her fame as one of America’s most famous authors, she remains humble and true to herself, staying in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine rather than living the lavish lifestyle of a celebrity.

Never one to shy away from a good mystery, Fletcher inserts herself into police investigations to help fight crime, much to the chagrin of the authorities most times, who are more than willing to throw the book at the first suspect they come across. Using her sharp perception and innate ability to piece together random clues, Fletcher always comes out as the hero, leading the police to the real perpetrator.

Sadly, Curtis' version ofMurder, She Wroteis a film project, and not a TV reboot, so don’t look for Fletcher to stick around too long when she does return. That being said, if the film is a success, who knows where it could lead? Hopefully we get at least a couple of sequels or, fingers crossed, a TV spin-off. It wouldn’t be unheard of for the star to make an appearance on the small screen, as she’s set to lead the upcoming Prime Video thriller seriesScarpettaalongside Nicole Kidman, which adapts author Patricia Cornwell’s popular crime novels.

We’ll have more news on theMurder, She Wrotereboot as it becomes available, but in the meantime, all 12 seasons of the iconic mystery seriesare now available to stream for free on Tubi.
