Even thoughJamie Lee Curtishad a new movie to promote during her appearance onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, that did not stop her fromrecounting the absolute devastation of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The fires greatly affected the neighborhood in which she lived and, while she was worried about her home, she alsofelt the weight of seeing friends lose everything as well as most of her city, the Pacific Palisades, burned to the ground. Curtis took the time to get emotional, but she also did something that will benefit many of those whose lives will be forever changed by these wildfires.

During her appearance onThe Tonight Show, Curtis tried not to get truly emotional when talking to Fallon about the wildfires. As the late-night host offered his sympathies, she said,“I’m literally just about to cry.“She then went into more detail about what she saw before flying out to New York City to appear on the show to promote her latest film,The Last Showgirl.

Jamie Lee Curtis in ‘Knives Out’

“As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning. I flew here last night. I was on the plane, started getting texts, and it’s f****** gnarly, you guys. It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California. Obviously, there have been horrific fires in many places [but] this is literally where I live.”

Curtis explained that businesses, including her local market, schools, and some of her friends' homes had all been reduced to rubble after being ravaged by the fires. She added that her immediate plan was to fly back to Los Angeles to be with her family and support her friends. The actress also explained how the audience could take action by supporting the American Red Cross. Curtis said,“Do anything you may. Anything in your community to help people. Whether you need it or not now, you will need it. Give blood, donate, whatever you can do.”

Jamie Lee Curtis and Her Family are Donating to Relief Efforts

As it turns out, Curtis and her family are doing what they can by donating$1 million to relief efforts. (Today, it was also reported thatGoogle is donating the same amount… to the incoming Trump administration for its “inaguration fund.")

Curtis' caption reads, in part:

“As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband [Christopher Guest] and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state.”

Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Pratt, and More Celebs React to LA Wildfires: “Take Care of Each Other”

The LA area is the home to many high-profile celebrities who have or may have to evacuate from the wildfires.

Curtis was one of many celebrities who took to Instagram to post about the devastation of the fires. While Curtis' home appears to be safe, many celebrities have lost their homes in the wake of the fires, includingBilly Crystal, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, Cary Elwes and more.

While it might be easy for some to assume this isn’t a big loss for celebrities due to their wealth (I’ve personally seen this nonsense on social media), they are still people with cherished memories in these homes. This is the kind of loss that hurts them just as much as it would hurt everyone else. Some of them have lived in these homes for years and no one, no matter their status, is prepared for this kind of massive devastation.

As the deadly winds that helped spread the fires are starting to subside a bit, these areas are still not in the clear. The Palisades Fire is said to have damaged or destroyed structures that have reached the thousands. And some on the ground in this area and other affected areas, such as where the Eaton Fire is located, are saying that these cities are practically reduced to nothing. Los Angeles City Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley stated this morning that,“It is safe to say that the Palisades Fire is one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of Los Angeles.“Some are reporting that possibly 70% of the Palisades is gone.
