For those who need their Jem fix, the studio has released a new preview, courtesy ofE! Online, where we get new footage and hear from directorJon M. Chualong with starsMolly Ringwald,Aubrey Peeplesand Hayley Kiyoko.Aubrey Peeplesexplains that this movie is really about Jem’s unexpected rise to fame.
As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures' Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice. The cast also includesJuliette Lewis,Ryan Guzman,Stefanie Scott,Nicholas Braun,Samantha Newark, Aurora Perrineau and Isabella Rice.
This preview also includes footage of the originalJemanimated TV series, which ran for three seasons spanning 65 episodes from 1985 to 1988. The original series followed Jem, the musical superstar alter ego of a young woman named Jerrica Benton who, with the help of a holographic computer called Synergy, is able to clandestinely perform rock concerts with her friends. This live action adaptation will surely be a lot different from the originalanimated TV series, but the director reveals he wants to keep the spirit of the show intact.

The adaptation hits theaters October 23, going up against The Weinstein Company comedyBurnt, Lionsgate’sThe Last Witch Hunter, Paramount’sParanormal Activity: The Ghost Dimensionand Open Road Films’Rock the Kasbah. This is shaping up to be one of the most competitive weekends at thebox office.
