Place your bets!Jenna Ortegahas, and she is all-in, Texas Hold’em-style, on Wednesday Addams not only winning, but killing the ghost with the most! Ortega, who stars as the titular character in the Netflix series based on the Addams Family,Wednesday,is currently starring in director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel,Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. And during the press tour promoting the No. 1 movie at the box office, Ortega was asked how Wednesday would have “dealt” with Michael Keaton’s Beetlegeuse. The actress replied (perDen of Geek):

I think she would have killed him [snickering resonates].

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the sequel to the original Tim Burton classic that starred Michael Keaton and Wynona Rider in a horror-comedy that involved ghosts trying to scare off new homebuyers from taking their house. The sequel brings back Michael Keaton as the hilarious and sleazy ghost with selfish intentions, now joined by Jenna Ortega in a new role.

Wednesday Addams certainly has a proclivity to overcome any obstacle, and the youngster’s fascination with all things morbid and macabre would ultimately have led to the character coming across Beetlegeuse, if the two beings existed in the same universe. So, the idea of them going a few rounds isn’t that out of the ordinary to think about. Ortega expanded on her answer during the same sit-down by saying (below):

“I think it’s kind of funny, because the way that Michael [Keaton] was scared of Monica Bellucci’s character Delores… I think it maybe would have been the same. I think she probably could have given him a run for his money. She also would have liked the afterlife, and probably wouldn’t want to leave it — the way it looked in this movie, anyway.”

Season 2 ofWednesdaywill include new characters, but Michael Keaton’s Beetlegeuse won’t be among them. And while seeing Wednesday Addams and the ghost with the most throwdown and exchange fisticuffs — à la say theFreddy vs. Jason(2003) film or theAsh vs Evil Deadseries — would have been entertaining, the titular character ofBeetlejuice Beetlejuicehad enough problems dealing with his one-time ball and chain. And co-star Catherine O’Hara touched on how she enjoyed those supernatural exes coming together in the follow-up toBeetlejuice(1988) during the same interview. The actress said:

“Most of us just think that way, you want to have it all there. It’s been said a zillion times, but life is a mixture of all those things, all those emotions, and laughter is just such a beautiful gift that we’ve been given to release us from pain and sorrow and scary moments in our life. Anybody who wants to make a good story tries to get it all in there…

The story definitely helped ground the women’s characters, especially what Lydia [Winona Ryder] and Delia [O’Hara] and Astrid [Ortega] were going through and what Beetlejuice was going through. I love to see the vulnerability of Beetlejuice actually scared of his ex-wife [Bellucci] It’s so hilarious.”
