Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Showhas now reached the midway point of its six-episode run, and there have been plenty of incredible guest stars so far … not just in terms of those celebrities who have appeared as themselves, such as director and self-described “Howard the Duck biopic star” Lea Thompson and stand-up comedian John Hodgeman, but also so far as the guest-starring voice actors behind the familiar Marvel Comics characters who have called into Doreen Green’s show, including Spider-Man, the Regular-Sized Shocker, and the Vulture, played on the show by none other than John de Lancie in the third episode, “The Sinister Six Are No More.”
Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Showis a sequel toThe Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, both of which were written by Ryan North and featured characters co-created by North and Erica Henderson like Brian “Brain Drain” Drain and Koi Boi (and, of course, with the eponymous Squirrel Girl in the host’s seat, a character who Will Murray and Steve Ditko created).

Starring Milana Vayntrub as Doreen, Crystal Lucas-Perry as Nancy Whitehead, Leo Sheng as Koi Boi, Davied Morales as Chipmunk Hunk, Peter Hermann as Brain Drain, Erica Schroeder as Tippy-Toe, and Tina Benko as Rachel Oskar, the show takes the form of a radio show that invites characters from the Marvel Comics universe to call-in “live” on the air. The meta conceit allows for the return of many characters introduced by (or in some cases, classic characters updated in a distinctive manner) by the Marvel Comics series.
More Big Guest Stars on Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show
In the third episode, de Lancie appears as the Vulture, a supervillain best known for his association with the Sinister Six (who are now going by a different name after certain members of the gang were given the boot) and for the fact that, despite the aerial acrobatics that defines his airborne shtick as “the Vulture,” is an elderly man. De Lancie may be best known for his role as Q onStar Trek: The Next Generationand subsequent shows, a rolehe recently reprised for the second season ofStar Trek: Picard.
Speaking ofTrek, the fact that Adrian Toomes is far too old to be sashaying about in a flying rocket harness is frequently brought up in battle by Spider-Man, a character who appeared in the second episode of the series, “Spider-Sense Didn’t Even Tingle,” in which he was played by anotherStar Trekalum: Paul Scheer, who plays Chief Engineer Andy Billups onStar Trek: Lower Decks. Scheer also wrote an issue ofDeadpooland appeared in the Disney+ streaming documentary series,Marvel’s 616, so he’s a great fit for the role of Marvel’s poster boy in the show.
The third episode ofThe Unbeatable Radio Showalso featured an appearance by the Shocker, a former member of the gang formerly known as the Sinister Six (although at first, he tries to pass himself off with an alias and use Squirrel Girl’s crime-fighting expertise to anticipate challenges to his latest super villainous plan). This S6 alum is played by Bobby Moynihan, whose voice acting experience also includes a lead role in the 2017 revival ofDuckTales.
