Variety’s Actors on ActorsVariety’s Actors on Actors series has delivered many memorable combinations of celebrities, but their latest episode brought together possibly its most incredible interviewees yet:Josh Brolin, and Josh Brolin. As bizarre as it sounds, there is a reason why Brolin ended up sitting opposite himself for the interview, as Jeremy Rennerwas originally meant to appear with him, but he missed his flight due to the weather. Rather than pull the interview entirely,Varietyasked Brolin if he wanted to interview himself and the rest is one of those things that only come about by chance.
TheActors on Actorsseries has often delivered some interesting anecdotes, whether it is stories about filming some of the biggest movies of all time, or what it was like working with some iconic actors. This time around, the unique situation allowed Brolin to take charge and really appreciate what it was he had to say about himself. At the beginning of the video, a message explained how the Brolin on Brolin interview came to be. It said:
“For this season of ‘Actors on Actors’ we intended to pair Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars Josh Brolin and Jeremy Renner. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Jeremy was not able to attend the shoot. So to salvage the situation, Josh interviewed himself.”
Starting off by admitting to being “a big fan” of Brolin, Brolin then spends the following twelve minutes praising Brolin, while Brolin commends Brolin for his work. Yes, it does play out exactly as bizarre as it sounds, but it plays out amazingly well with Brolin – both Brolins – hamming up the comedy stakes while actually managing to pull off what comes across as a genuine interview at the same time. Brolin Praises Himself for His Thanos Role
During his self-interview, Brolin takes a moment to really get into some tongue-in-cheek appreciation for how an actor of his “gravitas” was able to really get into the role ofThanosin the MCU. After asking himself what it was like getting the Marvel job, Brolin replied:
“I mean that was a huge, huge undertaking for me. When you’re my status of an actor, when you have my kind of gravitas, it’s, I understand why they say ‘you know that guy can bring some weight to the purple dude.’ And what a lot of people don’t know is that when they came to me it was for a cameo, it was just a little thing in Infinity War and what happened was I blew everyone away so much that they ended up making two movies out of it. One is the fifth biggest movie of all time and one is the biggest movie of all time. I don’t know if that has to do with me, but one would think, you know.”
Of course, all of this is Josh Brolin hilariously improvising his way through the interview in the most self-appreciative way he can, and it proves that sometimes, things just happen for a reason. There is no doubt that had Jeremy Renner been able to attend the shoot, then what would have come from the video would not have been anything like the comedy gold Brolin manages to deliver.
