It’s hard to believe NBC’s iconic medical drama seriesERcelebrated its 30th anniversary last year. At that time, one of its stars,Julianna Margulies, revealed in a panel that she andGeorge Clooney— another standout from the show — stillsign their personal emails to each other with their characters’ERnames: Carol and Doug. MovieWeb recently caught up with Margulies while she was promoting her latest project, and the Emmy-winning actress took time to share more about her longtime friendship with Clooney and what they’ve been up to of late.
“He’s in New York. I just finished doing a play on Broadway, and he’s just started rehearsals,” Margulies told us. “He came to see the show a couple weeks ago, and we probably email each other, I would say, almost once a day just because he hasn’t done stage in a long time, and I had just been in it. So, you know, I’m giving him advice and making sure he’s taking care of himself, and I just think he’s being so brave. He doesn’t have to do a play… You have to be brave to get up there. And he’s definitely not in a place in his life where he has to do a play. So I’m very proud. I know it sounds a bit weird to say it, but I am.” Margulies continued:

“I’ve known him for so long. He’s like my brother, so I’m very proud of him. He took the hard road. He didn’t just cash in his chips. And you take a real chance when you get out on a stage live. And someone of his status, you know, I always think of myself as a working actor, and he’s like the movie star, even though we both came out ofER. But I think it’s a much scarier place for him to get on stage than it is for me. So I’m really proud of him. And yeah, I talk to him all the time.”

So the material, it’s hard for me when the scripts aren’t up to par, for me to say yes to a project. It’s very easy for me to say yes to a project when I love the script so much.”
