After the disappointing critical and commercial results ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. was hoping to turn their DC Extended Universe (DCEU) around with a strong showing forSuicide Squad. While the movie ended upbreaking box office recordswith $133.6 million, it was another critical failure, posting a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes, almost identical toBatman v Superman’s 27% take. The DCEU will continue next year withWonder WomanandJustice League, which is currently filming, and it seems the bad press forSuicide Squadis motivating theJustice Leaguecast to perform even better.

Production began onJustice Leaguein mid-April, with the cast and directorZack Snydertaking a break from filming to showcase thefirst trailerat Comic-Con. While the trailer garnered some positive buzz in Hall H, many fans remain skeptical about the DCEU, afterBatman v SupermanandSuicide Squadfailed to impress.MTVcaught up withEzra Miller, who stars asThe FlashinJustice Leagueand even has a brief cameo inSuicide Squad, who revealed that the negative response toSuicide Squadhas served as a motivation for theJustice Leaguecast.

“You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to thenegative reviewsto feel how negative critiques motivate us. Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves. It’s like thatT.I.song, ‘Motivation.'”

Ezra Millermade his DCEU debut asThe Flashwith two important cameos inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he also made a surprise appearance inSuicide Squad, in another brief cameo where it’s revealed that The Flash is responsible for bringing in the nefarious Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). Last week, it was revealed thatZack Snyderhimself directed this scene, butEzra Millerclarified that it was a collaboration between bothZack SnyderandSuicide SquadfilmmakerDavid Ayer. Here’s whatEzra Millerhad to say below.

“Saying that Zack [Snyder] shot it would not be accurate. It was very much a collaborate effort that was supervised by DC. It was collaborative withDavid [Ayer].”

There was also a post credit scene inSuicide Squadthat showed Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) acquiring files on all of theJustice Leaguemembers from Amanda Waller, presumably so he can track them down and recruit them for his big superhero team.Ezra Miller’s The Flash,Jason Momoa’s Aquaman andRay Fisher’s Cyborg were first scene in brief appearances inBatman v Superman, through footage Bruce Wayne stole from Lex Luthor’s database. It isn’t known how long production is supposed to last for, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates onJustice League.
