Justice League Dark Wants Colin Farrell as John Constantine?

Last month, we reported that Warner Bros.' long-gestatingJustice League Dark, a.k.a.Dark Universe, is finally moving forward, withScott Rudincoming aboard to produce alongsideGuillermo del Toro. While the studio still doesn’t have a director in place, afterGuillermo del Torobacked out this past summer, they hope to shootJustice League Darkat some point in 2016.Guillermo del Tororevealed last year that his script will featureDC Comicscharacters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Shade, Madame Xanadu, Etrigan The Demon and Zatanna. According to a new report from Latino Review, the studio is eyeingColin Farrellto play John Constantine.

Colin Farrell, who is currently filming Warner Bros’Harry PotterprequelFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is considered the front runner to playJohn Constantine, butEwan McGregoris also in the mix for this role. The report claims that whichever actor doesn’t land that role, could be cast as Jason Blood, the human version of Etrigan the Demon. The site also claims thatMonica Bellucciis the top choice to play Madame Xanadu, and thatRon Perlmanis being eyed to play Swamp Thing.

Both the studio and producer are said to agree thatRon Perlmanplaying Swamp Thing is “a good idea.” Warner Bros. is rumored to be looking for an actor with comedic sensibilities to play Deadman, while also searching for a Hispanic or black actress to play Zantanna. The studio is also said to be in the process of hearing pitches from directors who want to take the reins onJustice League Dark, but it isn’t known if the studio is close to making a decision on who will directJustice League Dark.

The site reports that the studio disagreed withGuillermo del Toro’s choice for Constantine. While it wasn’t revealed who his choice was, the filmmaker hinted in an interview last August that he may be eyeingMatt Ryan, who starred as the title character on NBC’s short-livedConstantineTV series. Unlike Marvel, theDC Comics' movie and TV worlds have been kept separate, especially with a new version ofThe Flashhitting the big screen in 2018, while The CW airs its incarnation ofThe Flashon Tuesday nights.
