Beloved celebrityKeanu Reeveshas officially been inducted as a member of Canada’s Walk of Fame. Reeves personally accepted the award and gave a speech reflecting on his Canadian roots, and he seemed very proud to receive the honor. The actor also was presented the award by Carrie-Anne Moss, his co-star from theMatrixfranchise, who will soon be seen back on the big screen with Reeves inThe Matrix Resurrections.
“I would not be here if not for where I came from,” Reeves said during his acceptance speech. “Thank you Toronto, thank you Canada. Thank you for all of the experiences, adventure, teaching, support, friendships, and for my life.”
Though Keanu Reeves was born in Lebanon, he spent the majority of his formative years in Toronto. Attending four different high schools in the city, Reeves had initially wanted to become a pro hockey player before setting his focus onto acting. He got his career started working for the DBC on the program Going Great in the early 1980s as a correspondent, later securing a role in the sitcomHangin' Inand moving on to movies.
After an acclaimed performance inRiver’s Edge, Reeves took onone of his most popular rolesby co-starring inBill & Ted’s Excellent Adventurewith Alex Winter. He’s been one of Hollywood’s most popular actors ever since, and that was exacerbated when he later portrayed Neo inThe Matrixand its sequels. In recent years, Reeves has been wowing his fans with his action-packedJohn Wickmovies.
In a matter of days, we will see Reeves back in the role of Neo once again. The actor andCarrie-Anne Mossare both returning as Neo and Trinity inThe Matrix Resurrections.Directed by Lana Wachowski, the sequel also brings back Lamber Wilson and Jada Pinkett Smith with series newcomers including Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Christina Ricci. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also stars as a new version of Morpheus, the character previously portrayed by Laurence Fishburne.
“I’ve never had the chance to play a role 15, 16, 17 years later and that’s some of what the film’s about. So this idea of a past, and memory, and fiction, and reality, and truth,” Reeves recently said of revisiting Neo, perEsquire.
Onwhich pill he’d take in real life, Reeves added, “You know, reality and existence is tough enough, so it would be great to have the red pill so you could at least start from there. But you know, maybe they could have a blue pill for like a vacation, you know, like the vacation blue pill. But it still wouldn’t be as good as going on vacation on the red pill!”
