Kevin Costneris following in the footsteps of President Teddy Roosevelt, in a more literal way than you might think. He also really can’t seem to get away from Yellowstone (no, notthatYellowstone), either. The actor and producer has set up a follow-up to his first docu-series with Fox Nation celebrating the National Park — the aptly titledYellowstone: One-Fifty— with a new look at how the park came to be. The show is calledYellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costnerand will follow the actor as he re-traces the 1903 Yosemite expedition of Roosevelt and environmental advocate John Muir, an event that resulted in the National Parks system and the protection and creation of many acres of land.
The first episode, set to premiere on August 25, 2025, is said to kick off the streaming service’s so-called “America 250” campaign, a year-long endeavor to honor the country’s 250th birthday in 2026. The two subsequent episodes will air weekly (perVariety).
Kevin Costner to Narrate Yellowstone’s 150th Anniversary Documentary
Yellowstone: One-Fifty will be narrated and hosted by star Kevin Costner.
According to the official series description:
“Throughout the voyage, Costner explores the region’s rich Indigenous American legacy, the serendipitous arrival of outsiders in 1850, and how John Muir evolved into a crusader for our wildest places. Through Costner’s perspective, he illuminates the struggle waged by Muir as he contended with the intricate politics of resource management and how Roosevelt’s intervention culminated in the establishment of a more structured National Park System, the creation of 150 National Forests, 5 National Parks, and the preservation and protection of 230 million acres of precious land.”
What Was So Special About Teddy Roosevelt’s 1903 Camping Trip Through Yellowstone and Yosemite?
Roosevelt’s 1903 camping trip is the sort of thing you would, frankly, never see a president do anymore. Out in the woods with a guide and a few additional compatriots (like naturalist and essayist John Burroughs, whowrote about the tripin 1906 forThe Atlantic), with no physician or even a Secret Service agent in sight, Roosevelt saw many tremendous sights along his journey, and apparently told many a fascinating tale, if contemporaneous accounts like the one above are to be believed.
In an official statement, Costner had this to say about the project:
“Once in a while, you come across a story that has that truly special mix of elements; it’s stranger than fiction and happens against all odds. It results in something that legitimately changes the world for the good and, most importantly, it all really happened. The story of President Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir’s camping trip through Yosemite is one of those truly special ones, and I’m excited to dig into the next chapter of the preservation of the American frontier.”
Costner also executive produced the project thanks to his production company, Territory Films, which developed the series alongside Warm Springs Productions. Rod Lake also executive produced the series, as did Marc Pierce for Warm Springs Productions.
“Kevin Costner has a unique ability to capture the American experience and captivate an audience through his extraordinary storytelling,” explained Fox Nation president Lauren Petterson in a statement. “With the enormous success of our first project together, there is no filmmaker that better embodies the spirit of America 250 than Costner.”
