Marvel Studios may be looking to bring a new Marvel superhero series to ABC, as the network is said to be in early talks with Kevin Feige to make that happen.Agents of S.H.I.E.L.Dis concluding its seven-season run on the network this year, which will leave the Disney-owned network with no Marvel programming. Feige and Disney have been focused on future efforts for Disney+, but they may still be carving out time, and a hero or two, for network television in the future.
According to a new report, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke revealed at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that she’s looking forward to working with Marvel headKevin Feigeon a new show. Details at this time are very scarce, so we can’t even begin to speculate as to what heroes (or villains) might be involved, or how it might connect to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, should things move forward. Here’s what Burke had to say about it.
“We love our partners atMarveland we’re sad to see [Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D] go, it’s been a big part of our history. We’re looking forward to working with Kevin Feige and we’re at the very beginning of conversations with him now about what a Marvel and ABC show might look like. Right now, Marvel’s focus has been on Disney+, as it should be.”
Kevin Feige, as president of Marvel Studios, helped guide the MCU to become a $22 billion box office behemoth. On the TV side, it has largely been Jeph Loeb steering the ship. Many of the shows produced during the MCU era were, at best, tangentially connected to the movies. Recently, Feige was promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Marvel, which extends to TV, with Loeb stepping down andMarvel Televisionclosing its doors.
Now,Disneyand Kevin Feige will be focusing on making the future of Marvel TV far more rooted in the MCU. Several TV shows are currently being produced for the Disney+ streaming service, includingThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier,WandaVision,Loki,Hawkeye,She-Hulk,Ms. Marvel,Moon Knightand the animatedWhat If?That, coupled with the MCU’s Phase 4 movie slate, are likely to keep Feige very busy for the next few years.
Still, it’s easy to see why Disney would be interested in keeping ABC in the Marvel business. Especially if they can carve out some time for Kevin Feige to produce a show for the network. Aside fromAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D, ABC was also home toAgent Carter, which ran for two seasons, andInhumans, which proved to be something of a disaster and ran for just one season.
