The newJoe Exoticseries has addedTwin Peaksstar,Kyle MacLachlan, to its cast. The actor will portray Howard Baskin, the husband of Carole Baskin, played in the series by Kate McKinnon. The news was first reported by Variety, who revealed that MacLachlan will be joining the growing list of names for the Peacock show based on theTiger Kingstar. Joining the pair are Brian Van Holt, Sam Keeley, William Fichter, and Natt Wolff.

MacLachlin has a wealth of past roles on TV but is still best know for his iconic turn as Dale Cooper in the completely indescribableTwin Peaks, for which he earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. The character was such a cult favorite that the actor was able to reprise the part again almost three decades later for Showcase’sTwin Peaks: The Return. Outside of the David Lynch series, MacLachlan has also starred inSex And The City,The Good Fight, andDesperate Housewives, as well asstarring in the movies, Inside Out,Dune,Blue Velvet, andThe Flintstones.

Based on the Wondery Podcast of the same name,Joe Exoticfocuses on Carole Baskin, a lover of big cats who discovers that another lover of exotic animals, namely Joe Schreibvogel, is breeding and selling his tigers and other big cats for profit. After making the discovery, Baskin makes it her business to get Joe’s venture shut down, sparking what will become a formidable rivalry between the pair. With a dubious past of her own, Joe will do anything to expose his adversary’s history in order to save himself.

John Cameron Mitchell is on board to play theTiger Kingand said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to take on the role of this modern folk antihero. Joe and I are the same age and like him, I grew up queer in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas so I feel like I know a little bit about this guy and his desperate attempt to conquer an inhospitable world.”

“It’s clear that an over-the-top character like Joe needed someone very special,” Steven O’Neill, executive vice president of casting, added. “We are so excited tohave John Cameron Mitchell, an adored icon of the LGBTQ community, take on this compelling role. His casting speaks to our ongoing vision of universal storytelling, and we can’t wait for our audiences to experience the show.”

The story ofJoe Exoticbecame a worldwide sensation after the airing of the Netflix documentary series,Tiger King, which introduced many to thebizarre life of Joe and his adversary Carole Baskin. The show led to parodies, songs and more as the world couldn’t get enough of the unique and almost unbelievable story that unfolded. The new series will go one step further making a full dramatization of the events which occurred between the two of them as they set out destroy each other.

Joe Exoticis written and produced by Etan Frankel, while McKinnon acts as executive producer along with Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, and Aaron Hart.
