The footage unveiled David Corenswet as the titular Kryptonian hero, while introducing a bevy of other DC characters for the first time in live-action. Over the holiday week, YouTuber and 3D artist/animator Trevor Carlee uploadeda LEGO versionof theSupermantrailer. It completely recreates the original edited live-action footage from the ground up, making Gunn’s film look like a spiritual successor to the belovedLEGO Batman Movie. Blocky recreations by fans of popular trailers are not a new trend, but seeing Superman in the format is exciting nonetheless. On Christmas day, even Gunn himselfsharedthe LEGO trailer on his social media, while promising, “We’re working on your gift. It will be ready in July.” It’s safe to say that the summer of 2025 can’t come soon enough.

‘Superman’ is Inspired By Previous Iterations of the Superhero

The official debut of the DCU,Superman, hopes to be the beginning of an entirely new era for the superhero genre. Of course, it won’t do so alone, as the upcoming film has already blatantly called back to the first movie version of the character. The official trailer used John Williams' iconic musical score in guitar form. However, that’s not the only version of Superman James Gunn takes inspiration from. The directorpreviously revealedwhich DC media has influenced hisSupermanfilm, from Richard Donner’s 1978 classic toMan of Steelby Zack Snyder.

“I think that all previous DC media influenced me. I think that obviously the original Donner movie influenced me, but there’s also a lot of things that this isn’t, like I’m just making a Donner type movie. It’s very different from that. Zack [Snyder] did some excellent stuff. So there’s a lot of ways that influenced me. There’s a lot of ways in which the DC animated universe [influenced me], and then there’s a lot of stuff from the comic books above and beyond anything else, All-Star Superman, that influenced me more than anything.”

We Need to Talk About the Most Important Part of the ‘Superman’ Trailer

One of the best parts about the Superman trailer is the most important one, hinting at the DCEU’s future.

Although he does not mention it, we’d like to think there is some inspiration to be taken fromThe LEGO Batman Movie. In all seriousness, it is exciting thatSupermanis a product of decades of world-building throughout the DC canon, whether it is live-action, animated, or otherwise. And even though it was nice to hear the originalSupermantheme, Gunn has also already made it clearthe film will have its own musical score that will take cues from Williams' work. The filmmaker has also shown a willingness to talk to previous Superman directors, including Snyder himself. If the rebooted DC Universe were to succeed,Supermanmust fly high, and it seems to be in good hands thus far.
