We’ve already let you guys know in the past thatDark Phoenixproducer Lauren Shuler Donner has made it abundantly clear she is not satisfied with the current state of theX-Menmovies. In fact, she has gone so far as to write (in a since-deleted tweet) that we should all save our condolences because she had nothing to do withDark Phoenix. OrX-Men: Apocalypse. OrThe New Mutants. But it turns out that the producer hasn’t even bothered to see the latestX-Menmovie yet, revealing this.

“I have to be honest with you. I have not seen it yet. I’m sure I will be, but I have not seen it.”

X-Men

Well, for all of the disdain coming fromLauren Shuler Donnerfor where the series has progressed over the past few installments, at least the producer still plans on seeing the movie at some point in time. So that’s something. Truth be told, not many people have bothered to go see the newX-Menmovie in the general public either. The latest entry infamously scored not only the lowest opening weekend in the franchise’s history, but also the film claimed the biggest second-week drop for a superhero movie ever.

But that said, how could the producer of the movie not even bother seeing it? I mean she had to see a cut at some point during production, right? Not so much. It seems that during post-production, Kinberg was the producer signing off on cuts as Shuler Donner was legitimately too busy producing other projects (such as FX’sLegion, and two Broadway shows). In the end, the producer indicates she is unlikely to join Marvel’s Kevin Feige on any futureX-Menmovies, offering this.

“X-Mennow belongs to Disney and it’s in their capable hands. [The future of the franchise is] really up to Kevin Feige. He started out with me. I trust him. I think whatever he does, it won’t be right away. I think he’s already dealing with the plan that he set in motion for the other Marvel universe. But, I will not be involved most probably. I’ll be friend of the court.”

As we all know by this point in time, withDisneysnatching up Twentieth Century Fox, Simon Kinberg’sDark Phoenixwill mark the final film in the currentX-Mencinematic universe. That is if writer-director Josh Boone’sThe New Mutantskeeps itself hidden on the shelf of some studio executive. But that said, evidently, Shuler Donner still has high hopes for Josh Boone’s X-Men horror movie. So that’s good, I guess.

And speaking of Josh Boone’sThe New Mutantsthe movie’s long-planned reshoots have been confirmed to happen later in the year. Once released the film will feature Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as the group’s doctor and mentor, Cecilia Reyes. We’ll continue to keep up to date on allThe New Mutantsnews that comes our way and pass along word as we hear it. This story comes to usvia /Film.
