The latest film by director M. Night Shyamalan,Trap, has finally received its streaming premiere date. These days, it isn’t easy to find exactly what streaming service a movie will be on and when it will be available. In this case,Trapis coming to the Max streaming service, and it’s available sooner than one might think. The film debuted in theaters on August 2, but it will nowarrive on Max this October 25, just in time for Halloween.

Many Shyamalan films have a horror tinge, andTrapisn’t any different. While not an outright member of the genre,Trapfollowsa serial killer who is trapped inside a concert with his daughter due to a heavy police presence surrounding the building meant to catch him. The film is loosely based on 1985’s Operation Flagship, a real-life event where police arrested over 100 fugitives after luring them to a football stadium under the guise of free tickets.

Known for taking risks with his movies, Shyamalan does the same withTrap. However, what makes this movie different from the rest of his filmography is his putting the viewer into the eyes of a killer as a protagonist. Shyamalan explained in aninterview with Comic Bookthatthis unique concept led him to want to make the movie.

It’s a Big Year For Shyamalan & His Family

2024 has been a solid year for Shyamalan between the release ofTrapand his daughter’s filmThe Watchers.Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut didn’t go as planned, however, at least in terms of profitability. It only grossed $33 million at the box office off a $30 million budget,while scoring a low 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile,Trapperformed just well for itself, with$82 million at the box office (and counting) on a $30 million budget. Critics have given a lot of praise to Josh Hartnett for his performance, who followed up on the success of 2023’sOppenheimerwith an acclaimed leading role.
