San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone, andDisneyhas just updated its cinematic dance card for theMarvel Cinematic Universeaccordingly. Two glaring items stand out: Oscar winner Mahershala Ali’sBladefilm (July 08, 2025) still appears on the updated movie release schedule, whilean untitled Marvel Studios project originally slated for release on June 12, 2025, has been dropped. Bladedidn’t have any presence during the panel in Hall H when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made presentations for the next MCU entry slated for theatrical release,Captain America: Brave New World(June 11, 2025), along withThunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps,and, of course, he made huge revelations forAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars(May 2027).

Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titledNew World Order)marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers' successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.

Avengers: Doomsday Was the Most Shocking Comic-Con Newsmaker

Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universewas unquestionably the most thrilling news to come out of 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con. And, naturally, Disney’s updated film release schedule was going to reflect the replacement of what wasAvengers: The Kang Dynastywith RDJ’s Victor von Doom cinematic vehicle titledAvengers: Doomsday.

And just like the fans, fellow MCU alums were stunned when Downey Jr. walked out on the comic-con stage and announced he would play Doctor Doom with his “new mask, same task” speech. Brie Larson, who plays Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, said in an interview on theBingeworthypodcast (viaThe Playlist):

I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin [Feige]. It was like that same day. And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con.’ He did not say that at all! Not at all!

The President of Marvel Studios may downplay the rivalry, but Deadpool takes a shot at DC when he stumbles across a certain someone in the multiverse.

Likewise, Hawkeye actorJeremy Renner didn’t know RDJ was “doomed.”Renner, who has played the MCU’s version of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, since 2011’sThorsaid in an interview withUs Weekly:

As revealed onThe John Campea Show,Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider reports that Downey Jr. is likely going to show up duringThe Fantastic Four: First Steps,in a mid or post-credits cameo, according to Campea’s opinion.
