Marvel’sInhumansmovie may be off the table, at least for now, but Marvel’s royal family is still going to be making their way to the big screen, and the small screen, later this year. ABC will be airing an8 episode Inhumans series, with the first two episodes set to debut in IMAX theaters all across the country. Now, just after the first official image from Marvel’sInhumanshit the web, the first trailer for the upcoming series has arrived, teasing a dramatic betrayal.
Marveldecided that the first image fromMarvel’s Inhumanswasn’t quite enough, so they also released the first footage, giving us a sense of the tone that we can expect from the show when it finally arrives. While there isn’t any actual scenes shown in this sneak peek, we do get a nice look at the logo for the series, as well as some dialogue which sets up the conflict. The voiceover in the teaser, even without any footage, is probably enough to get fans of theInhumansexcited for the series.
The teaser kicks off with Maximus (Iwan Rheon) saying, “Are we supposed to follow our king and remain as silent as he is?” The king beingBlack Bolt, the leader of theInhumanswho doesn’t talk because his vocal chords have absolutely devastating sonic power capable of leveling entire cities. Next, someone says, “You’re talking about betraying your brother. You’re talking about treason.” That is followed up with Maximus responding with, “What I’m talking about is freedom, freedom for all Inhumans.” That sets up the central conflict of the show quite nicely. Brother against brother. This won’t just be a bunch of heroes fighting a big villain or villains. There will be betrayal and family drama mixed in with a bunch of superpowered characters, which could be something pretty unique in the landscape of superhero TV shows.
Marvel had originally slated theirInhumansmovie for 2019, with Vin Diesel seemingly set to play Black Bolt. The movie has since been removed from Marvel Studios' schedule indefinitely, so that left room for ABC to step in and bring the property to TV instead.Inhumansis something that hasa lot of potential, if executed correctly, but without any footage yet it is a little hard to tell if this is going to be a better or worse option than the proposed movie. The first image got plenty of fans excited, showing Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Ken Leung as Karnak, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Anson Mount as Black Bolt andIwan Rheonas Maximus. That said, some of the costumeslooked more like high-end cosplay, as opposed to a cinematic quality transition from page to screen. But that was just one image. We’ll probably have a much better sense of whatInhumanswill be once the first full-length trailer arrives.
Inhumansfirst two episodes are being directed by Roel Reine and they will be shot in IMAX. The first two episodes ofInhumanswill debut in theaters on September 1, which will kick off a two-week theatrical run. ABC will then air the first episode of the eight-episode series on Tuesday, September 26. Be sure to check out the first teaser forInhumansfor yourself below.
