Ross Marquand, the impressionist and star ofThe Walking Dead, has recalled his time in the MCU. Marquand is not exactly a prominent figure among the other cast members of theAvengersmovies, but he actually had apivotal yet brief part in the franchiseas Red Skull inInfinity WarandEndgame. However, as he recently revealed, it was a part that he found out he was playingafterarriving on set and being overwhelmed by the scale of the massive superhero project.

As reported by Comic Book, Marquand appeared at Awesome Con 2025 and talked about his short-lived part in the MCU. InAvengers:Infinity WarandEndgame, Marquand replaced Hugo Weaving as the performer behind Red Skull, the vicious villain who first appeared in 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avenger. It was a project so secretive that when Marquand signed up, he didn’t even realize he was going to be part of the most successful film franchise of all time:

‘Captain America: Civil War’

“I didn’t know what movie I was going to work on. They didn’t tell me. They quite literally said it was a voice-matching job that may entail voice-matching this character that Hugo [Weaving] played, but they didn’t even say that by name.

“It wasn’t until I got to the set that they made me shave and put the [motion capture] dots on. I’m looking around, there’s like 150 people waiting for me. I’m like, ‘This is not a regular voiceover job. What is going on?’ That’s when the makeup artist leaned over, and he said, ‘Do you know what you’re working on? This is the new Avengers movie.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, God.’ I almost passed out.”

10 Superhero Movies That Are Action-Packed From Beginning to End

Marquand is mostly known for his work in independent cinema and supporting TV roles. However, he has provided voice work in major TV productions likeInvincible, and Marvel properties likeWhat If…?andX-Men ‘97. His role as Aaron inThe Walking Deadwas consistent and well-received throughout the whole series, which makes us wonder if he couldn’t do more live-action roles.Red Skull inAvengers: Doomsday? While that would be a stretch, it sounds like a perfect opportunity for Marquand to reprise one of his memorable characters.

Filming the ‘Avengers’ Movies Was a Unique Experience for Marquand

During the panel at the convention, Ross Marquand also offered insight into the complicated production of Marvel’s star-studded giants. Avengers:Infinity WarandEndgamewere shot back-to-back, between January 2017 and January 2018, a process that was logistically ambitious to say the least. So much so that, at times, Marquand was forced to perform opposite body doubles instead of the real stars:

“It was the craziest shoot day, because it was the second-to-last shoot day of both films. They shot both concurrently, back-to-back, and half of Hollywood is in these movies. So whenever you’re available, that’s when they get you in, and they shoot you, and they get you out.

“I was acting with two really lovely body doubles who were giving me the eyeline and giving me the lines to react to. It was a very interesting way to work, I’ll tell you that.”
