Stranger Things4did things for 80s music that most shows cannot even dream of. As well as bringing a classic Kate Bush song to a new audience and the top of the charts, the second part of the season delivered a blistering guitar-driven performance of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” performed on top of a trailer in the Upside Down by Eddie Munson, played by actor Joseph Quinn. Now, Metallica frontmanJames Hetfieldhas been returning the favor by rocking out in an Eddie Munson cosplay for Halloween.

Stranger Thingsseason 4 delivered an epic penultimate season, with a run time of double every previous season and several new characters. Of the late additions to the franchise, Quinn’s turn as heavy metal-loving leader of The Hellfire ClubEddie was an instant hit with fans, and his death at the end of the season hit many hard.

However, thanks to Metallica’s Hetfield, Eddie Munson lives again, if only for Halloween. Will Eddie Munson Return in Season 5 ofStranger Things?

According to pretty much everyone involved in the series,Eddie Munson will not be making some kind of miraculous returnin the final season ofStranger Things. While some characters have been thought to be dead previously and returned, including both David Harbour’s Jim Hopper and Matthew Modine’s Papa, Eddie Munson has definitely struck his last chord, no matter how fans try to pretend otherwise.

Even after the Duffer Brothers and Quinn himself have confirmed thatEddie will not be playing a part inStranger Thingsnext season, fans have continued to theorize ways that he could return. The most popular theory has been that Eddie will be brought back to life as puppet for the series villain Vecna to control and use as he sees fit, but this idea has been shot down in a number of interviews.

Even though Eddie has now joined the ranks of theStranger Thingsdeparted, there is still plenty for fans to look forward to in the final season of the horror series, but one thing there will not be are new characters for them to get attached to. Creator Matt Duffer previously said:

“I just like shaking it up, so we shake it up by changing the plot or adding in a new monster. We’re doing our best to resist [adding new characters] for Season 5. We’re trying not to do that so we can focus on the OG characters, I guess.”

While Matt Duffer’s comments clearly leave plenty of scope for some new characters to creep into the story, with a sizable cast of characters already in play, his comments of concentrating on giving a fully rounded ending to those characters that audiences have stuck with for four seasons will probably be ok by the vast majority ofStranger Thingsfans. There has been no word of exactly whenStranger Things 5will arrive on Netflix, but it is expected to be sometime in 2024.
