The list of actors who could playJames Bondpost-Daniel Craig is a who’s who of Hollywood’s finest. But despite rumors, “insider” confirmations, and yo-yoing betting odds constantly featuring the likes of Idris Elba, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and the not-going-to-happen Henry Cavill, there is a lesser known name back in “serious contention” for the role. And, just like the original Bond, Sean Connery, he is a born-and-bred Scot.
Stuart Martinis currently best known as a Zack Snyder alum, after making appearances in several of the director’s Netflix features, includingRebel MoonandArmy of Thieves, but he has also built up an extensive resume since appearing in British TV showTaggartin 2009 and having a blink-and-you-miss-it role in Russell Crowe’s 2010 version ofRobin Hood. One of his biggest projects wasthe 2020 PBS seriesMiss Scarlet, in which he played the Duke of Wellington in 24 episodes.

Although there are frequently big names thrown into the ring for the role of James Bond, several stars who have previously taken on the role became much more prominent after their appearance as the world’s most famous super spy. Perhaps with the franchise looking for a complete overhaul following the cataclysmic final act ofNo Time to Die, someone without a string to huge roles behind them could be just what the franchise needs.
Do Fans Want Stuart Martin to Play James Bond?
Stuart Martin is not the first name that comes to mind when most people are asked to name their ideal Bond candidate. However, anyone who saw himplaying Bradley Cage in heist movieArmy of Thieveson Netflix would possibly have him somewhere on the list. Having spent large parts of that movie performing exactly the kind of stunts that would be expected of whoever next slips into the suit of Bond, he does seem to have what it takes when it comes to the action side of the role.
Fans have certainly put some weight behind the casting suggestion on social media, and insiders have claimed (viaThe Daily Mail) that Martin has already had “under the radar” talks with Eon about potentially taking on the role. The source was quoted as saying:

“He is in serious contention. No-one will confirm this because Eon goes all out to deny and shy away from anything concerning casting, but it would be an amazing milestone to have a Scottish Bond again. And let’s not forget, Eon doesn’t give a damn whether the man who lands the job is famous or not. It is about getting the man they want and who they feel is best suited for this life changing experience. It is more pressure, scrutiny and stress than any other movie role.’
