AnotherDeadpoolfan favorite is getting lined up for a return in the upcoming threequelDeadpool 3. Back in 2016,Morena Baccarinwas featured in the originalDeadpoolmovie as Vanessa Carlysle, the love interest of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson. She reprised the role forDeadpool 2in 2018, and while the character was killed off in the film, she wound up getting resurrected in a post-credit sequence. The future of the character has since remained unclear, as while Reynolds is confirmed to return forDeadpool 3alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, there haven’t been any reports of Baccarin getting brought back into the fold.

In a new interview with Michael Rosenbaum for theInside of Youpodcast, Baccarin directly clarified her current status withDeadpool 3. As of now, she is not involved, but that’s not due to a lack of interest on her part. She says she needs to be “diplomatic” with her words before going on to suggest that she wants to be in the film, but that negotiations are currently stalled for unnamed reasons. Whether the two sides can end up working out whatever these hangups are remains to be seen. As Baccarin puts it:

Ryan Reynolds as Wade and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa in a scene from Deadpool

“What is up with Deadpool 3? That’s a really good question. I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here. I’d like to be in it. They have called me about being in it. Right now, we have not agreed on terms, and everybody’s trying their best, and doing their best. But, it may or may not work out, I don’t know.”

Deadpool 3 May “Reinvent” the Deadpool Movie Series

Baccarin shares some further comments that seem to hint that Vanessa’s potential involvement inDeadpool 3could be held up due to creative reasons. She says that Disney acquiring theDeadpoolseries may have resulted in big changes to the original plans forDeadpool 3, and that might mean less involvement overall for Vanessa. Baccarin notes how the primary focus of the threequel will be on the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine, and it’s easy to speculate how this would leave Vanessa out in the cold, perhaps making it less enticing to take part in the movie. Baccarin noted:

“I do think that this movie, since the acquirement of the Deadpool Universe by Marvel, Disney, all that merger that happened, I do feel like they’re trying to reinvent it a little bit. I think this movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool… He was gonna be a huge part of it, and I’m sure that it will be great.”

Deadpool 3will be released in movie theaters on Aug 23, 2025.
