‘The Thursday Murder Club’ Creator Reveals Inspiration for Mystery Novel

The Thursday Murder Clubauthor Richard Osman revealed to Netflix that seeing retirees share their unique wisdom and knowledge inspired him to write a story that followed “underestimated people” who have incredible skills. With a star-studded cast spearheaded by Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, both of whom still form part of major film and TV franchises, the Netflix adaptation is living proof of the narrative’s concept. Osman:

“You just sit and chat with these people and they’ve lived these extraordinary lives. You hear these amazing stories and gossip and wisdom. You think, ‘These people are so overlooked.’ The idea that these people with their wisdom and their invisibility would be the perfect people to solve [a crime] is exactly whereThe Thursday Murder Clubcomes from. Take these people who are underestimated but who have these incredible skills, put them together, and they can achieve anything.”
