Cobra KaicreatorsJon Hurwitz,Hayden Schlossberg, andJosh Heald’s action-comedy seriesObliteratedhas found a new home on Netflix. TBS had previously given a straight-to-series order forObliterated. It’s unclear why exactly the series was shopped to Netflix, but the move comes after the recent Warner Bros-Discovery merger, following whichTBS and TNT discontinued their scripted programming. The plot synopsis for the series (viaDeadline) reads:

“Obliteratedis a serialized action dramedy focused on an elite special forces team who is tracking a deadly terrorist network, hell bent on blowing up Las Vegas. After their raging end-of-mission party filled with alcohol and drug-fueled debauchery, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a decoy. With the clock ticking, the intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, deactivate the bomb, and save the world.”

Ancient Aliens Movie Is Happening at Legendary with Cobra Kai Team

There is currently no word on whenObliteratedwill premiere, but casting talks are happening right now, and the show is expected to commence production this summer.Obliteratedwill consist of eight 45-minute episodes. The show was announced back in 2019 whenCobra Kaiwas still airing on YouTube Red. The martial arts comedy was then picked up byNetflixin a partnership with Sony Pictures Television after Youtube canceled all scripted originals.

Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are under an overall deal with Sony, andObliteratedwill also be a part of it. And considering how big of a hitCobra Kaihas proven to be for Netflix, ordering another series from the same team would have been a no-brainer.

Cobra Kai Creators Also Developing an Ancient Aliens Film at Legendary

History Channel’s long-running TV seriesAncient Alienswill be adapted for the big screenby theCobra Kaiteam. Josh Heald will direct the film from a screenplay by Luke Ryan. Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Joh Jashni are on board as producers.Ancient Aliensis a wildly popular docu-series that mainly explores theories that extraterrestrial beings visited our planet thousands of years ago. However, the film adaptation will be quite different. THR describes the film as “a two-handed, globe-spanning adventure featuring ancient sites and artifacts, confronting the theories and questions raised by the popular docuseries.”

Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald have come to be known for theirKarate Kidspin-off series,Cobra Kai. The show follows the 1984 film’s villain, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), as he reopens the infamous dojo, hoping to find redemption by training his bullied teenage neighbor, Miguel (Xolo Mariduena).Cobra Kaihas been a smash hit for Netflix, and season 5 is already on the way. The show has brought back several characters from the originalKarate Kidtrilogy, like Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, Martin Kove as John Kreese, Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver, Elizabeth Shue as Ali Mills, Yuji Okumoto as Chosen Toguchi, and Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko.

But one character who has yet to arrive is Hillary Swank as Julie Pierce fromThe Next Karate Kid. Swank has stated that she is open to reprising the role, and theCobra Kaicreators have alsoteased her appearance in season 5. We’ll find out if that happens whenCobra Kaiseason 5 premieres on Netflix, which is likely to happen near Christmas. As for the show’s future, the creators have envisioned seven seasons to conclude their story, but withObliteratedfilming this fall and Mariduena busy with DC’sBlue Beetle,those plans will likely be delayed.
