Netflix has released the first trailer forNorm Macdonald Has a Showand it looks awesome. The comedian has a bunch of celebrity guests, including Michael Keaton, David Letterman, Chevy Chase, Judge Judy, David Spade, and many others. At one point in the trailer, Macdonald asks Drew Barrymore if she misses her drug days and then the actress reveals that she sent Steven Spielberg pictures of her baby because she thought that it looked likeE.T. the Extra Terrestrial.
Norm Macdonald has had an amazing career over the years, going back to his stint onSaturday Night Live, where he was famously fired by NBC executive Don Ohlmeyer for reportedly telling too many jokes about OJ Simpson back in the 1990s. Ohlmeyer and Simpson were good friends back in those days. Since then, Macdonald has had a very successful standup career and starred in some films, likeDirty Workand had his own sitcom, which was simply titledThe Norm Show. Recently, he has been hosting a talk show on YouTube, which is where theNetflixidea stemmed from.
Norm Macdonald Has A Showpremieres on Friday, September 14th, and all ten 30-minute episodes will be able to stream at that time. The trailer shows Norm Macdonald at his finest, asking Judge Judy about strip clubs and then erupting into laughter when Chevy Chase tells him about his weird encounter with Bob Dylan. The comedian is later seen asking David Letterman about mortality, and gets an answer that he didn’t really want to hear, which ends up giving Letterman a good chuckle.Norm Macdonald Has A Showlooks even better than it was imagined when it was first announced back in March of this year.
While the format ofNorm Macdonald Has A Showlooks like a typical talk show, there are plenty of trademark interruptions that make it a unique Norm Macdonald experience. While the format looks the same, Macdonald will not be delivering a run-of-the-mill talk show by any means. David Letterman, who also has a Netflix show, has taken his opportunity with the streaming platform to conduct longer interviews that go much more in-depth than he was able to pull off on late night. It’s not exactly clear where Macdonald is going to take his show, but it certainly looks funny.
Norm Macdonald Has A Showwill have some pretty steep competition on Netflix with the aforementionedMy Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Lettermanand Jerry Seinfeld’sComedians in Cars Getting Coffee, amongst others. It will be interesting to see how Macdonald’s dry humor goes over on Netflix. Hopefully, it goes over well enough that to warrant some more seasons of the unorthodox talk show.
