Netflixhas unleashed the first trailer for one of the streamer’s best action shows…and it promises that there will be blood. Making its debut back in 2023, the anime action seriesBlue Eye Samuraiis all set to return for Season 2, and while we don’t yet have a release date, the footage that has now been revealed will have fans more excited than ever to see the continuing saga of the titular warrior.

Set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan,Blue Eye SamuraifollowsMaya Erskineas Mizu, a female mixed-race blue-eyed bushi. Driven by a dream of revenge against those who made her an outcast in Edo-period Japan, a young warrior cuts a bloody path toward her destiny.

Maya Erskine (PEN15, Mr. & Mrs. Smith)leads a cast that includesGeorge Takei(Star Trek), Masi Oka (Heroes), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat), Brenda Song (Dollface), Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever), Randall Park (WandaVision), and Kenneth Branagh (Oppenheimer), as well as Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Harry Shum Jr. (Crazy Rich Asians) andMark Dacascos(John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum), among others.

The trailer, which you can check out below, teases the continuation of Mizu’squest for revenge, with a caption alongside the footage reading, “Mizu’s quest for revenge will continue. ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Boasts a Near-Perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

The response to the first season ofBlue Eye Samuraiwas overwhelmingly positive, with the anime series now sitting at a near-perfect rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. At the time,MovieWeb’s own Adam Symchukdeclared it “the revenge story you need to be watching.”

While more specific plot details forBlue Eye SamuraiSeason 2 remain under wraps at present, Season 1 concluded with Mizu headed to Europe - London, to be more precise – with writer Amber Noizumi excited to throw Mizu and her particular set of skills into a new continent. “It would be an interesting part of Mizu’s personal journey to see how Europeans react to her,” said Noizumi while speaking withNetflix Tudum. “What would she think of Western culture when she’s suddenly immersed in it? Are they all the monsters she thinks they are?”
