A newCloak and Daggertrailer has arrived online. Marvel TV shows have been popping up in various places ever sinceAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.debuted on ABC. The results have been mixed, but one that’s been in development for a very long time isCloak and Dagger. After several delays and snags along the way, the series is finally gearing up for itspremiere this summerand we have a new trailer that gives us a good idea of what to expect from the young super powered duo.
This new trailer forCloak and Daggermakes it pretty clear that this is aiming for more of a young adult audience, which isn’t all that surprising since the series is heading to Freeform, Disney’s young adult network. This trailersets up the dynamic at playbetween Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Dagger (Olivia Holt), who come from very different walks of life, but are drawn to one another, given their unique powers. Unfortunately, as can be the case with network TV comic book shows, some of the special effects and the actual superhero stuff doesn’t look great. Then again, this is just a trailer, maybe some of that will be touched up once the show actually airs.

Marvel’sCloak and Daggercenters onTandy Bowen as Dagger and Tyrone Johnson as Cloak, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, but find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly acquired super powers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers, hence the name, and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. Both of thesepowers are on full displayin the new trailer. They quickly learn that they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging. There’s almost aHancockelement to it, strangely enough.
In theworld of Marvel Comics,Cloak and Daggerfirst appeared as guests in an issue ofPeter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Manin 1982. The two were later given their own four-issue miniseries, which debuted in October of 1983. The duo has appeared in several major Marvel Comics crossover events over the years, such asSpider-Man: Maximum Carnageand theDark Avengers/Uncanny X-Mencrossover event,Utopia. Now, they’ll join the ranks of those in the live-action Marvel universe. Let’s just hope this is closer to something likeJessica Jones, in terms of quality, than it is toInhumans.
This series has been in the works for a long time. It was initially announced in April of 2016 thatCloak and Daggerwould be heading to Freeform. Hopefully, the delays and time spent developing the series was for the better. Again, the last thing we want is for this to be anotherInhumanssituation where an excellent Marvel property is squandered within the confines of a bad show. We’ll know soon enough, as the series is set to debut on June 7 with a special two-hour premiere event.
