Both Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan are leaving after this season, which will force a major change for the hit AMC series. Cohan has said that her Maggie character will not be killed off, but the future of Lincoln’s Rick character is unclear at this time. Lincoln has said that his exit from the series will be a surprise for long-time fans of the show.
The latest trailer forThe Walking DeadSeason 9 features Michonne and Carol as Rick’s only allies after Maggie and Darylput his leadership into question. Maggie sets the tone early when she tells Rick, “You told me you’d be the one following me, but you didn’t.” Carol urges Rick to “end it before it begins,” which could refer to any number of things. However, it looks like there could be a civil war brewing in the new season, which could be the reasoning behind the exit of both Rick and Maggie from the series.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Rick and Daryl seem to beon the verge of fightingafter Daryl throws his bike on the ground. Tension is building and the wedge between Rick, Daryl, and Maggie is growing, adding even more dread than fans ofThe Walking Deadwere anticipating. The Walkers are featured too, but almost as an afterthought since the team is slowly turning against itself. If that wasn’t enough, the Whisperers are also on the way, which is going to add a brand-new conflict to the story.
It was recently revealed thatSons of Anarchystar Ryan Hurst has joined the upcoming Season 9 ofThe Walking Deadas the villainous Beta. Beta is a key character from the comics and fans are looking forward to seeing what Hurst brings to the table. His iconic Whisperer mask famously shows off half of his face, much like Batman’s cowl, as he tries to keep his identity a secret. As for when the Whisperers will make their first appearance on the show, it’s looking like they will pop up in the second half of the season, which premieres in early 2019.
The first half of Season 9 will put thefocus on Rick and his leadershipafter letting Negan live at the end of the last season. As division rises, a new threat will slowly make its way into the storyline.The Walking Deadreturns to AMC on October 7th and will start the beginning of the end for Rick and Maggie.
