There are some actors with very distinct voices, acting styles, and faces. Qualities that instantly let you know that it’s that specific actor, even if you only catch a glimpse of them before the scene changes.Oliver Platthas all three of these qualities. The name might not be entirely familiar, or it might make you think of someone else, but once you see a picture of him or see what he was in, you’ll be nodding your head andsaying to yourself, “That’sOliver Platt!”

If you’re a fan of a very popular medical show or like indie horror movies, you’ll definitely appreciate Platt’s acting range and recognize that he’s very underrated. Let’s take a look at ten of his best performances, ranked.

10Gods Behaving Badly (2013)

It might be hard to stream, but if you manage to track down a copy of this film, you’ll be pleased to know the struggle was worth it.Gods Behaving Badlyis a fun little movie that features a knockout cast portraying Greek gods in modern-day New York City. The film is based on the novel of the same name and focuses on a couple,Neil (Ebon-Moss Bachrach)and Kate (Alicia Silverstone), who come across this group of Greek gods living in the big city. Platt portrays Apollo, and he’s downright perfect as this god of archery and music.

9Bulworth (1998)

If you enjoy feeling second-hand embarrassment from characters in movies, and you thrive on people making fools of themselves, then you definitely have to check outBulworth.Bulworthis a political comedy that stays completely true to itself throughout the entire film, pointing out racial divides as well as the differences between wealth classes. Platt plays Dennis Murphy, Bulworth’s right-hand man and assistant, who’s constantly mortified by whatever comes out of the senator’s mouth, especially his raps. It’s a great film that can be used and appreciated today through a political lens and comedic timing as well.

8The Big C

The Big Cwas a four-season show that ran on Showtime and featured both Laura Linney and Oliver Platt. It follows a family who’s going through quite a hard time as the mother of the family discovers she has cancer, and it’s quite aggressive, leading each member of the family to come to terms with her death throughout the seasons. Platt plays husband Paul Jamison, and he’s a hard character to like, since he’s quite childish and has an affair when his wife is literally sick with cancer. It’s a fun show that, surprisingly, has more guest stars than you might expect.

7Lake Placid (1999)

If you enjoy cheesy horror movies that focus on prehistoric and unrealistic animals, you have probably watchedLake Placidat least once. In a small lakeside town in Maine, a huge crocodile is wreaking havoc in Black Lake, and a group of less-than-experienced individuals decide to work together in order to take care of it. Platt plays Hector Cyr, a man who’s kind of a mess, is a crocodile extraordinaire, and struggles with the thought of actually killing the animal when it comes down to it.

6Bicentennial Man (1999)

Robin Williams plays Andrew Martin, the android that is the main focus of the movie and who slowly becomes more human as the film progresses. The robot goes through quite a bit as he starts to feel big emotions—emotions that he’s not supposed to have, such as falling in love with someone. Oliver Platt plays Rupert Burns, who works together with Andrew, the robot, to become more human-like since he wants to experience what the rest of the world goes through. Bicentennial Man is a great watch and will certainly pull at your heartstrings as you watch an android want what he can’t have.

5Chef (2014)

InChef, directed, written, and starring Jon Favreau, Platt plays the food critic who essentially ruins the career of Carl Casper. He’s only in a few scenes, but his character is memorable enough that he’s important to the plot and also Casper’s journey as he quits his job in an extremely public way. It’s a full-circle moment when Ramsey comes back at the end of the movie to talk to Casper about the bad review that led to him purchasing his very own food truck and why he wrote exactly what he did. You’ll feel content with how the movie ends andhow the two work it outas the credits roll.

4Flatliners (1990)

Flatlinersis one of the best classic horror movies to come from the 1990s, with its original storyline and stacked cast that dominated the screen at young ages before they were huge stars. Each friend goes through different trials when it comes to dying and coming back to life, each of them going through intense situations that make them realize death isn’t something to mess around with. Platt plays Randy Steckle, one of the medical students who gets roped into Nelson’s (Kiefer Sutherland) plan.

3The Three Musketeers (1993)

The Three Musketeershave been around for years and years, and their story is so well-known that it’s been remade a handful of times. Each adaptation is special in its own right, and those who portray the three special musketeers spin the characters and make them their own while still keeping it close to the novel. This version, released in 1993, had quite the cast, with the likes of Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O’Donnell, and Oliver Platt. Platt plays Porthos, one of the musketeers, who’s not only the comedic relief in the group but also the one that often rallies the troops when it comes to sticking together and remembering what being a musketeer is all about.

The Bearhas recently released its second season, and truly, it’s one of thebest shows on television right now. It follows a fine-dining chef named Carmy, who comes home to Chicago when his older brother dies, and he takes over his restaurant. Platt plays Uncle Jimmy, also known as Cicero, who’s very wealthy and has plenty of influence over the Berzatto family. In the 18 episodesThe Bearhas had so far, Platt has only appeared in eight episodes, but his influence has been memorable all the same. We learn more about Uncle Jimmy whenever he shows up, either in the restaurant or at the Berzatto homeduring a very tense Christmas. Platt is great as the uncle you want in your life when you’re low on money or just need some advice to get you through the day.
