The stars have aligned with Marvel’sCloak & Dagger TV showfor Freeform! Former Disney Channel star and Hollywood Records recording artistOlivia HoltandAubrey Joseph(The Night Of,Run All Night) will star as Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger, and Tyrone Johnson, a.k.a. Cloak! Here’s what showrunner and Executive ProducerJoe Pokaskihad to say about their casting.

Marvel’sCloak & Daggeris a coming-of-age series based on the belovedMarvel characters. Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event. Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. Marvel’s Cloak and Daggeris produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. This new series was originally supposed to debut in 2017, but it was reported in November that the show was being pushed for a Winter 2018 debut. The series was given a straight-to-series order byMarvel Televisionin April. Now that the two main stars have been set, it’s possible that the studio is getting ready to start production in the near future, but that has not been confirmed quite yet.
In the comics, Cloak can teleport through the ‘dimension of darkness,’ with his powers similar toDoctor Strange. He’s also capable of leaving his foes trapped in this otherworldly dimension. Dagger can create light daggers with her mind, which she is capable of controlling. These light daggers can both drain life, and replenish and heal.Bill MantloandEd Hannigancreated these Marvel characters for theSpectacular Spider-Mancomic book series, with the two often interacting with Peter Parker. The pair have also fought alongside theX-Men,The Runaways,Doctor StrangeandCaptain America, and they even fought as part of the Secret Avengers group in the Civil War comic book story arc. ABC Family had previously attempted to turnCloak and Daggerinto a TV show back in 2010, with the story set in New Orleans. That series never got off the ground, and Marvel Studios even played with the idea of a feature film revolving around the two characters, but that never happened either. Hopefully we’ll have more casting updates soon onCloak and Dagger.
