The arrival ofPeacemakerSeason 2 on HBO Max contained the unsurprising retcon of that Justice League cameo appearance in the finale of Season 1. As James Gunn previously suggested, the show’s tightrope-walk along the borderline of canon between the DCEU and the DCU was completed in the opening episode of the new season, and that included putting the Justice Gang into a reworked version of the Justice League scene that last time around featured Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s The Flash. However, there is one member of the new team that no one expected to see yet – Milly Alcock’sSupergirl.

Alcock made her debut as Supergirl in the final moments of this summer’sSupermanas a taster of what is to come from her solo movie next year. However, fans got the briefest blink-and-you-miss-it look at Supergirl in flight during the new Justice Gang scene inPeacemaker.

Milly Alcock as Supergirl in Superman

Despite this being the bare-minimum cameo appearance from Supergirl, it has both hyped up those that are on board Gunn’s new DCU, and given others more ammunition to call out the “forced” scene that makes “everyone” want Zack Snyder back. Yep, those comments will still be coming in ten years' time when the people writing them have lost their teeth and are bashing their keyboards with arthritic fingers.

Milly Alcock’s ‘Supergirl’ Will Be the Next Movie in James Gunn’s “Superman Saga”

When the DCU’s first slate was laid out by James Gunn, there were many projects in it that now seem to have dropped back, or out, of the priority list and onto the backburner.Movies likeSwamp Thingare now uncertain,The Authorityseems to be off the cards entirely, and several projects such asThe Bold and the Braveand Wonder Woman-centricParadise Lostare currently stalled.

In the evolved slate of the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter, a Clayface movie is now pushing forward, an animated Robin movie is happening, and Gunn is seemingly building a four-movie Superman saga. This year’sSupermanwas the first movie, and Alcock’sSupergirlwill be the second. With that movie bringing Jason Momoa back to the world of DC in his new role of Lobo, and a very different – but ultimately comic-accurate – Supergirl interpretation from Alcock, there are many fans of the new DCU looking forward to next summer already. Where Gunn’s Superman Saga goes beyond that is currently unclear, but he will no doubt share details when he sees fit.

Meanwhile,Peacemakercontinues to be a crowd-pleasing addition to the DCU. The second season drew an almost perfect 98% from Rotten Tomatoes critics (up from 93% for Season 1) and has landed an 84% audience score, which is around the same as the 87% of the first season. After making a cameo inSuperman, John Cena’s Christopher Smith, and other characters that are too R-rated for family audiences, are clearly not going to be kept completely out of the main DCU franchise, which makes the world Gunn is crafting an interesting prospect indeed.
