Cinemark has partnered with The Pokemon Company to bring the first full-length animatedPokemonmovie to theaters for two-days-only on October 29 and November 1. The movie will be playing at more than 200 theaters with multiple showings each day to accommodate those who want to see the movie in theaters again, or maybe for the first time. Pokemonhas been around for twenty years, but the popularity of the brand has surged again in recent months, largely thanks to the new mobile gamePokemon GO. Even though the fever has died down for the game a bit,Pokemonis very much back in the public consciousness in a big way, so the timing is pretty perfect for fans and for Cinemark. Those who have been playing the game will likely want to take the opportunity to seePokemon: The First Moviein theaters, either because they are feeling nostalgic or because many younger fans never got an opportunity to see thePokemon moviein theaters initially, since it was released back in 1999.
Pokemon: The First Moviewas a pretty reasonable success at the box office when it was first released. The movie grossed $163 million worldwide from a $30 million budget, which made it very profitable. The movie was significant because of the appearance of the Legendary Pokemon Mewtwo and Mew. Legendary Pictures is currently working on a live-actionPokemonmovie based on theDetective Pikachugame, but that is still likely a couple of years away.
