“I would say, never say never. There’s no reason not to, but I can’t lie and say we’ve been cooking something up. But there’s no reason it couldn’t exist.”
While Schaffer admits that nothing is currently being worked on, he does state that the idea of a sequel is certainly a possibility (and it could now quite simply be titledPopstar: Never Say Never). The firstPopstar: Never Stop NeverStopping begins with pop trio Conner (Andy Samberg), Owen (Jorma Taccone) and Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer), who become famous after launching their rap album. But Connor abandons the band to form a solo career and is forced to see his celebrity status crash after the project fails.
Popstarwas met with positive reviews from critics, with many praising the use of the mockumentary style and the movie’s satirical approach to fame and the music biz. Despite this,Popstaronly managed to gross just over $9 million, and thus failing to meet its budget of $20 million. Since release however, the movie has developed a cult following, with the newfound love forPopstar: Never Stop NeverStopping leading to many asking for a sequel.
So, while there is nothing concrete in place as yet for aPopstar 2, it sounds like Akiva Schaffer is keeping an open mind and would be willing to return for more should the right opportunity present itself.

Audiences Are Likely to See a Sequel to Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Before Seeing One to Popstar
Speaking of sequels, director Akiva Schaffer most recently helmed the successful rebootChip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangersfor Disney+. The movie follows beloved Disney duo Chip and Dale who are now living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voiced by John Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voiced by Andy Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days.
When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.
Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangerswas met with rave reviews when it premiered last month, with many commending the meta-approach to the world of Disney and animation.Talk has already turned to a sequel,with writer Doug Mand saying they “do have ideas” and that there is more story to be told. “I would say that, and not just a shameless writer, cash grab or whatever, we think that there is a lot more to tell in the world that we’ve started to play in this movie,” he said. “And that we’ve kind of only scratched the surface in both characters that we want to explore and stories for the characters that are currently in the movie."
