Back in April, Lionsgate pushed back therelease datefor its highly-anticipatedPower Rangersreboot from August 23, 2025 to June 20, 2025. No cast members have been set at this time, but now we do have word on when directorDean Israelite’s movie will start filming. TheDirector’s Guild of Canada(via YVR Shoots) has released their list of films set to start production this January in the country, withPower Rangersmentioned among these titles.
It’s worth noting that the project is listed asShirt, but withDean Israelitementioned as the director, it’s likely thatShirtis the code name for the production. The listing notes that production will run from January 18 to April 1. That should give the project ample time for the post-production process. It isn’t known at this time if casting is already under way, but we have already heard a number of rumored story details.
The plot reportedly begins 65 million years ago, where thePower Rangersof that era are battling the nefariousvillainRita Repulsa. The Red Ranger, Zordon, creates a black hole and sends her through it, before the action picks up in present-day Angel Grove, California. Here we meet the five 16-year-old heroes, Jason, Billy, Zack, Kimberly and Trini. They all meet up to explore an abandoned military base, where Billy believes is the site of aT-rexfossil, which he found on Google Earth. While digging up the T-rex fossil they find the power coins that belonged to the firstPower Rangers.
The black hole Rita Repulsa was sent through didn’t kill her, as she re-surfaces to find her missing gold. Zordon also re-emerges, discovering that the power coins have “bonded” with these five kids, as they all attempt to work together in an effort to stop Rita Repulsa from destroying the world. None of theseplot detailshave been confirmed yet, but we’ll have to wait and see if this information lines up with the first official synopsis, whenever that is revealed.
