Created by David Jaffe at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio,God of Waris an action-adventure video game franchise that began in 2005. The story follows the titular protagonist, Kratos, a Spartan warrior who later becomes the God of War after he is tricked into killing his family by his former master, the original Greek god of war Ares. Seeking vengeance, Kratos wages war on the gods, setting off a series of events that leads to wars with the mythological pantheons.

More recently, and likely the game that has had the most influence on Dan Trachtenberg’s approach toPrey, introduces an aged version of Kratos, with the story bringing in elements from Norse mythology and adding Kratos’ young son, Atreus to proceedings. Since its release,God of Warhas received universal acclaim, with critics praising the story, the evolution and characterization of Kratos, and the stunning visuals on display. No doubt Trachtenberg is hoping for a similar response to his installment in the Predator franchise.
