The Sticky, the six-episode Prime Video series starring Margo Martindale, is streaming now, loosely based on the true story of the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist. A story that’s almost too wild to believe, the heist occurredfrom 2011 through 2012, where C$18.1 million (USD 12.7 million) was stolen from a storage facility in Quebec.Chris Diamantopoulos, known for his work inSilicon Valley,Mrs. Davis,The Boys in the Boat, and many, many more projects, recently spoke to MovieWeb and discussed his role in the series and the actor who was initially eyed for his part as Mike Byrne.
As it turns out, Diamantopoulos wasn’t initially drawn to the project, and it took a few changes before the actor was fully onboard with whereThe Stickywas heading. He explained, “When I read [the script], I didn’t immediately jump at it, but I had an agent who stayed on this project and kept calling me about it…I think they were circling Dan Aykroyd at first, and there just wasn’t a lot of crossover there.” Luckily, the addition of Martindale changed everything for the series and Diamantopoulos.

“But when Margo [Martindale] got the offer, they really went through and did kind of a full rewrite of the script and adapted the script for her, and the character emerged as one I knew I had to play. I really fought for it; I mean, that’s the understatement of the century because they already went down a path with a couple of other actors they were looking at. I sort of stormed the castle very brashly, and I think I said to them, ‘Listen, I wouldn’t do this unless I really felt it, but if you guys want the project to succeed, you gotta hire me,’ and after it came out of my mouth I was like ‘ah you’re not supposed to say that,’ but I really felt it.”
It seems the change of plans mostly paid off, as, though there are only a limited number of reviews,The Stickycurrently holds an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes following its six-episode release on Dec. 6.

‘The Sticky’ Creators Spill the Syrup on Prime Video Heist Comedy with Margo Martindale
Showrunners Brian Donovan and Ed Herro discuss their Prime Video true crime comedy ‘The Sticky’ and stars Margo Martindale and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Diamantopoulos Shared the Screen With a Legendary Scream Queen
Jamie Lee Curtis stars alongside Martindale and Diamantopoulos inThe Sticky, only adding to the star power of the Prime Video series. Sharing the screen with the actress known forTrue Lies, theHalloweenfranchise, and countless other projects was a treat for Diamantopoulos. “The chance to spar with Margo Martindale and Jamie Lee Curtis. That’s just an offer I can’t refuse.” And, as the series progresses, his character changes quite a bit.
“If you scratch the surface even a little bit, you realize there’s a host of not only insecurities but some darkness in his past, and aside from some of the humor that he provides, there’s also some emotionality there. I love that this character, between six short half-hour episodes, he really runs the gamut from alpha to omega. Starting out as something we think him to be and then really revealing something else.”

The Stickyhas yet to be renewed for a second season, but the first six episodes of the series are available to stream now on Prime Video.
