There’s something eerie about being so close to nature. No matter how peaceful the woods can be, you never know if you’re being watched by something. Prime Video’s new series, Outer Range, seems to agree with that feeling. Check out the trailer and synopsis for the series below.
The trailer is already effective in hooking the viewer. What starts as a seemingly comforting family prayer before a meal slowly builds tension, ending in a descent into madness. We’re given hints of either a supernatural or other-worldly force that aims to either toy with or annihilate our protagonists. It’s hard to tell if whatever is going on is either alien or Lovecraftian or ghostly or a mix of all three, but whatever it is, that odd symbol being carved into the rocks and peoples’ bodies might have something to do with it. The show hints at a psychological and thrilling twist in a ranch setting. Check out the official synopsis below.
Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown. At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca. They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family; through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.

Josh Brolin(Avengers: Infinity War) stars as the father and patriarch of the household, Royal Abbott. Joining him as the other members of the Abbot family areLili Taylor(Hemlock Grove) as Cecilia, Tom Pelphrey (Iron Fist) as Perry, Lewis Pullman (Catch-22) as Rhett, Olive Elise Abercrombie (The Haunting of Hill House) as Amy. Playing the Tillersons are Shaun Sipos (The Vampire Diaries) as Luke, Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek) as Billy,Will Patton(Yellowstone) as Wayne, Matt Lauria (CSI:Vegas) as Trevor, and Deirdre O’Connell (Netflix’s Daredevil) as Patricia.Imogen Poots(2019’s Black Christmas) is also joining the cast as Autumn and Tamara Podemski (Coroner) will be Deputy Sheriff Joy.
Outer Rangeis written and created by Brian Watkins, this will be his first writing and producing credit. The series will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Their previous team-up with Prime Video wasThe Underground Railroad. The series took eight months to shoot in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Production was initially planned to be shot in Calgary in Alberta, Canada, but had to be moved to New Mexico due to the pandemic. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, will premiere on the streaming platform on April 15th.
