After along delay, it looks like the eagerly-awaitedResident Evil: The Final Chapteris finally ready to get off the ground. Franchise starMilla Jovovichconfirms that production prep on the 6th installment of the long-standing series will begin this week in South Africa. She doesn’t give an exact start date for shooting to take place, but expect it to be soon. The actress, who has appeared in every single Resident Evil movie, will reprise her role as Alice. And she hasshared an instagramphoto of her first face cast as effects work gets underway.
It was last August thatMilla Jovovichand her husband and directorPaul W.S. Andersonannounced thatResident Evil: The Final Chapterwas getting delayed. The pair were expecting their second child together, and due to the extensive stunt regime that Milla has to undertake asAlice, they thought it would be better to halt production for a year, rather than put her through any unnecessary physical harm. But now, it looks like the movie is back on track, with the pair preparing to bring us the last, best installment of this popularvideo game adaptationfranchise.
Shooting was originally planned for Cape Town, South Africa. Production will still take place in the area, but will now serve as only one of several different locals used though out the thriller. This will bePaul W.S. Anderson’s fourth time directing aResident Evil movie. Though his wife has appeared in all 6 live-action adventures, he skipped out on the second and third films, 2004’sResident Evil: Apocalypse, and 2007’sResident Evil: Extinction, though he did help out with the screenplays of those movies. He did return to directResident Evil: Afterlifein 2010, and he directed the previous installment, 2012’sResident Evil: Retribution. Parts 5 and 6 were meant to be shot back-to-back, but those plans were scrapped early in the process.
Not only isMilla Jovovichreturning to play Alice for a 6th and final time, she will be joined byWentworth Miller, who reprises his role as Chris Redfield from Part 4,Resident Evil: Afterlife. Li Bingbing is expected to return as Ada Wong.Sienna GuilloryandSpencer Lockeround out the cast. No other confirmations have been made at this time. It’s expected that we’ll here more as shooting begins this summer. About beginning this next and final stage of the journey,Milla Jovovichstated the following.
