Although the MCU and DCU is led by young and middle-aged actors, there have been many industry veterans who have also stepped into the superhero genre in some pivotal roles. From Michael Douglas’Ant-Manrole as Hank Pym, to Patrick Stewart reprising the character of Charles Xavier inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesslast year at the age of 81, there is plenty of scope for older actors to dip into the comic book movie pool. So would 73-year-oldRichard Gereconsider being the next long-time actor to join a big superhero movie? It depends on the movie. While discussing his upcoming movie,Maybe I Do, Gere responded to the question of whether he would give serious consideration to joining one of theMCUor DCU’s future films. He toldComicBookMovie.com:
“It would depend on the quality. If they’re formulas, I’m probably not interested, but if there’s something quirky and unexpected and it doesn’t just end up with a big fight at the end of the movie – which they all do – it might be of interest to me, sure!”
Richard Gere has become well known for his romantic leads in movies such asPretty Woman, An Officer and a GentlemanandRunaway Bride. While this does not make him seem like an instant fit for a big, all action Marvel blockbuster, there is certainly no shortage of roles that he could play should be choose to join the superhero movie ranks.

Bill Murray and Harrison Ford Are The Latest Veteran Actors To Join the MCU
Among those who have already made an appearance in the Marvel franchise as veterans of Hollywood are Jeff Bridges, who appeared in the originalIron Manmovie, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson and William Hurt. The next phase of the MCU will certainly bring more older starts to the franchise, starting with next month’sAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawhich seesBill Murray joining the franchisealong with the return of Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer.
One of the biggest new additions to the franchise isHarrison Ford, who will be taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross from the late William Hurt. Ford is expected to play a pivotal role inCaptain America: New World Orderand Thunderbolts, as well as other potential movies in the coming years. When talking about his reason for joining the MCU, Ford previously said:
“Hey, look, I’ve done a lot of things. I now want to do some of the things I haven’t done.”
Having been part of theStar Warsfranchise and the lead of the Indiana Jones series for 40 years, Ford is certainly no stranger to big blockbuster franchises, and while the role of Thaddeus Ross may not be an all out action appearance, it is certainly something new for Ford following the conclusion of his time as Indiana Jones this summer. Whether we will soon see Richard Gere, and other veterans, joining Ford as part of the Marvel or DC stories is something only time will tell.
