The wait for the second season ofInvincibleat Prime Video has been rough, but as we draw closer to its arrival, creatorRobert Kirkmanis dropping some new hints about what to expect. Something our titular superhero will have to worry about amid his ongoing problems with his immensely-powerful father is the introduction of a new villain, as Kirkman reveals in a new interview withInverse. Specifically, season 2 will introduce Angstrom Levy, a supervillain who will bring multiverse elements toInvincible, making the series fit right in with what Marvel and DC have been doing lately.
“Some large or small aspect of season 2 focuses on the Angstrom Levy character," Kirkman says. “He’ll be a new villain that comes into the series. And if you’ve read the comics, you’re aware of who he is and what his deal is. He’s a villain that has access to multiple dimensions, and so it’s another one of those dang multiverse things.”

Fans of the original comic books will recognize who this character is. However, they shouldn’t expect for things to play out the same way in the animated series, as Kirkman promises that there will be some deviations made to keep things more unpredictable.
“We do things in a different way [than the comics], so there’s a little bit of a unique flavor to what we’re doing," Kirkman explains.

Invincible Will Bring in a New Villain
The first season ofInvinciblepremiered on Prime Video back in early 2021, and while the show has since been renewed through season 3, fans have yet to see new episodes. The lengthy wait is due in part to the pandemic affecting production, as Kirkman also explains.
“Animation takes a long time in general, so that’s a large portion of it,” Kirkman says. “The pandemic and the quarantine and everything hit at the worst possible time, as far as ramping down after season 1 and ramping up into season 2. It made it a very complicated process that delayed things a little bit.”
While he’s talking all thingsInvincible, Kirkman also shared a small tease about the long-gestating live-action film adaptation. For years, there have been tentative plans to make an unconnected feature film that adapts theInvinciblestory, and the success of the animated series could give that project the momentum it needs to finally happen. Kirkman isn’t divulging any specific details but he is teasing that he’s “excited” about what’s happening behind the scenes with the movie.
“We’re very excited about what’s going on,” the comic book creator said. “I wish I could say more specifically about it, but that time will come, and I’m very excited to get to that time because I hate answering questions in a very frustrating and vague way.”
The first season ofInvincibleis streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, but it is expected to arrive on Prime Video later this year.
