Roseanne Barr announced during the Television Critics' Association winter press tour that her character and John Goodman’s Dan Connor will be Trump supporters on the new Roseanne revival series. Barr has been a Trump supporter in her personal life and thinks that the Trump narrative works best for the Connor family, since they are a working-class family in 2018. Some of Barr’s views have been controversial over the years, but she feels that Trump’s presidency is also good for comedy, which is the main point of theRoseannerevival series.
In a new interview, Roseanne Barr spoke about her decisions behind making the Connor family Donald Trump supporters. In her opinion, Trumpspoke to the American working-class familya lot better than Hillary Clinton did during the 2016 presidential election. Barr feels that Clinton spoke too much about things that most Americans can’t identify with. She explains.
“He talked about jobs. That’s what you need to do if you want working people to vote for you. Not Syrian airspace. I don’t think Hillary talked about jobs much. She was always just talking about Syrian airspace. Do you think people in America care? Maybe they do, I didn’t, though.”
Additionally, Roseanne Barr spoke about why Donald Trump is the perfect person in the White House for the Connor family in theRoseannerevival series. She chose Trump because of how polarizing he is just as much as she liked his position on creating jobs. However, the main reason that she chose to support Trump on the show is for the comedy. She had this to say.
“Trump offended half of America and she offended the other half, so that’sgreat for sitcoms. It’s great for comedy. We’re lucky to have him as a president, it’s great for comedy.”
Roseanne Barr’s decision to support Donald Trump in her personal life as well as therevival serieshas seen some backlash, but as usual, she stands her ground.
