The Wolfmanremake is one of many Universal Monster projects that are currently in development. While there have been very few updates recently on the project,Ryan Goslinghas been happy to offer a small update on the movie, which he still seems to be very much on board with. While theDark Universenever really took off after the release of Tom Cruise flopThe Mummy,Universal Pictures has slowly been taking its horror reboots down different avenues with a lot more success than the straight-up remake option offered. While movies like the Nicolas Cage-starringRenfieldare already filming, others likeWolfmanare still in the early stages of development.
Speaking withColliderabout his current movie,The Gray Man, Gosling touched on the subject ofWolfman, and it appears that despite the lack of updates on the movie, Gosling is certainly still excited about it. He said:
“I just would do anything with Derek, but the idea of doing something like that just seems really exciting. It’s new for both of us, but in some way, I feel like it’s kind of the movie we’ve made already a few times, but in literal form. We’ve always kind of made the metaphorical version of it, and it’s sort of like the opportunity to really, to just make the literal version of what we’ve been hacking away at.”

Universal’s Monster Movies Are Not Straight Remakes This Time Around
WhenThe Mummywas released in 2017, the big-budget adventure was expected to be Universal’s version ofIron Manand would kick off an interconnected universe of movies that would combine the mythologies of the old Universal Monster movies of the 1930s and 1940s. However, it became clear very quickly that those plans would need to be reworked whenThe Mummybombed in every way possible.
However, in 2020The Invisible Manmade its debut, a new modern take on the classic H.G. Wells story that proved to be both a refreshing change from the tired and cliché-riddenThe Mummyand a big success for Universal. With a new plan in place to revisit the Universal Monster movies as unique and unconnected movies, the success ofThe Invisible Manled to an announcement thatThe Wolf Man, Dracula, Bride of Frankensteinand other projects would be getting developed in the coming years. After originally appearing in the 1940s,Wolfmanhas been portrayed in many ways by many actors, and how Gosling’s version will differ is yet to be revealed, but it does seem that it will not just be a “man turns hairy after wolf bite” movie and, likeThe Invisible Man, will instead rework the themes of the story into a modern setting.
Of course, Gosling is currently busy working on a very different project as part of theBarbiemovie, in which he stars as Ken alongside Margot Robbie in the title role. While that movie is certainly an intriguing one, there are plenty of horror fans hoping that once his life in plastic is complete, Gosling will be moving on toWolfmanin the near future.
