Ryan Murphy’sThe Politicianlaunched on Netflix today, so it’s a great time to talk about the filmmaker’s next project for the streamer,Hollywood. It’s been confirmed thatBig Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and Dylan McDermott (LA to Vegas) will be joining the quickly growing cast of the Netflix Drama.
Jim Parsonsand Dylan McDermott are among the nine new cast members announced for the series. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Maude Apatow (HBO’sEuphoria), Joe Mantello (The Normal Heart), Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Jake Picking (Sicario: Day of the Soldado,Blockers) are also set to join the previously announced cast of Darren Criss, Jeremy Pope and David Corenswet.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps as the series is not set to launch until May 2020. AlthoughRyan Murphyhas referred to it as, “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown,” which according to Criss makes it set in the 1940s. The series is likely to center on three lead characters played by Pope, Criss and Corenswet. In addition to starring, the trio is also attached to the project as executive producers. As for the newcomers, McDermott will play Ernie, Weaving will play Claire, Parsons will portray Henry Wilson, while Apatow will play Henrietta, Mantello will play Dick, Harrier will play Camille and Picking will portray the on-screen actor Rock Hudson.
The writer/director/producer has a long history of maintaining collaborative relationships. He co-createdHollywoodwith his long time creative partner Ian Brennan. The pair previously worked onGlee,Scream Queens,The PoliticianandRatchettogether. Prior to the upcoming drama, Murphy worked withDarren Crisson shows likeGlee,American Horror Story, as well asThe Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, a role which earned Criss an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for his performance. McDermott led the very first cast for Murphy’s long-running anthology seriesAmerican Horror Storyand is also featured inThe Politician. Parsons took the stage on Murphy’s Broadway production ofThe Boys in the Bandand is set to join him again in the production’s Netflix 2020 film adaptation as well. He also co-starred with Mantello in HBO’sThe Normal Heartwith Murphy in the directors chair.
AlthoughHollywood’s premier is a long way out, you can check out the talented cast in a slew of other projects. Weaving stars alongside Daniel Radcliffe inGuns Akimbowhich recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She has also recently wrapped on the highlight anticipatedBill and Ted Face the Music. Parsons is returning to Mayim Bialik’s side inCarla. Apatow is set to join her father Judd Apatow once again in an untitled Pete Davidson film. Harrier can next be seen inStarlingandBIOSwhile Picking features in Tom Cruise’sTop Gun: Maverick.
