Throughout the show, the pair discuss their purchase of Wrexham and the eventual documentary,Welcome to Wrexham, releasing with it.

Welcome To Wrexham on Fx/Hulu with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Reynolds mentions how he initially ‘slid in’ McElhenney’s DM’s, sparking their friendship and leading to the football club’s purchase. The actor says their conversation ‘changed my life.’

“This particular one changed my life because you know this is what led to us becoming co-owners, co-chairmen of the Wrexham Associated Football Club. I remember, you know, after you reached out about this absolutely insane idea. And I remember coming, showing up and seeing Blake and saying you know ‘I have bad news. And I have really bad news. The bad news is I slipped into someone’s DM’s again. The really bad news is you know I might have bought half of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales.”

Reynolds and McElhenney Will be the Centerpieces ofWelcome to Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney have been co-owners of Wrexham AFC for over a year, and their entire journey will be documented on the FX and Hulu series,Welcome to Wrexham. The documentary will feature five episodes in its first season, which premieres later this month on Aug 24. The docuseries is described as chronicling thepurchase and stewardship of Wrexham AFC, one of professional football’s oldest clubs, by two Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

A two-season order is already in place for the series, as it will show the newcomers’ challenges with owning a football club, something Reynolds and McElhenney have very little experience with.
