Earlier today, we reported that Legendary and Universal Pictures have set a February 23, 2018release dateforPacific Rim 2. The news came just a few weeks afterStar Wars: The Force Awakensbreakout starJohn Boyegasigned on for a leading role, portraying the son ofIdris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the firstPacific Rim. Now we have yet another report which claims the studios are eyeingSuicide SquadstarScott Eastwoodfor an unspecified role.

Deadlinereports thatScott Eastwoodis in early talks for the action sequel, which has recently been given a new lease on life after it wasindefinitely delayedlast fall. Unfortunately, it wasn’t revealed whoScott Eastwoodis playing, or if this character has any connections to the characters from the originalPacific Rim. This new report reveals that production is being eyed to start late this year, although it isn’t clear where shooting will take place.

WhenGuillermo del Torowas attached to direct, he claimed that the entire original cast that survived the first movie will be back for the sequel. If this turns out to be true, then we will be seeing the return of Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), scientists Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) and Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) andRon Perlman’s Hannibal Chau, who was thought to be dead but was shown to have survived in a post credit scene. Of course, a lot has changed sinceGuillermo del Torowas attached to direct.

Back in February,DaredevilshowrunnerSteven S. DeKnightsigned on to direct, with writerDerek Connolly(Jurassic World) boarding the project last month beforeJohn Boyegasigned on. With a new writer and director on board, it isn’t known what new directions they may take the story in. Legendary also announced in 2014 that ananimated serieswill bridge the gap between both movies, but we don’t know if that’s still happening.

Scott Eastwood, the son of legendary actor/directorClint Eastwood, has been on a steady rise over the past few years. Later this year, he will be seen in two highly-anticipated projects, Warner Bros.' superhero adaptationSuicide Squad, the biopicSnowden, and he is currently shootingFast & Furious 8.
