Call an ambulance! The writers are returning to a certain celebrity-filled hospital. TheScrubsreboot is finally in its development stage, according to comedy writer Bill Lawrence, creator of the 2000s hospital comedy series starring Zach Braff.

Speaking toVarietyon the red carpet for the Writers Guild Awards, Lawrence had an exciting update about the development of the writers room for the upcoming reboot of the beloved comedy show:

The cast of Scrubs with rubber gloves

“We’re in the process of, the cool thing, putting the writers together. And it’s the best thing in the world to see that some of the most talented writers in the world wrote on that show and they’re all still friends, and my friends. And so [we] have a combination of the old and new. We’re just starting to build it right now. And I expect it to make an appearance very soon.”

Originally airing on NBC for its first seven seasons from 2001-2008 before moving to ABC from 2009-2010,Scrubswas a huge success. Following the slip-ups and triumphs of interns, doctors, nurses, and the hospital’s hilarious janitor,Scrubswas truly a slice-of-life comedy, which is what theTed Lassoco-creator does best. Withthe cast still staying in touch, even with the writers, the reboot was a no-brainer for most involved, but it has been a slow ride to development. The originalScrubscast featured Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn, and while specific names have not been attached yet, fans can assume that all the heavyweights will be there.

‘Scrubs’ Creator Reveals if Reboot Will Scrub Hated Season 9

The anticipated ‘Scrubs’ revival will honor the events of its much-criticized final season, according to Bill Lawrence.

‘Scrubs’ Is a Major Priority for Bill Lawrence & Co.

Lawrence has had no shortage of success since creating the hospital sitcom, being co-creator ofCougar Town, Bad Monkey, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, and even more. WhileTed Lassois approaching a possible green light for its fourth season, Lawrence only really wants to talk about the exciting medical adventures of theScrubsgang. But how do we know the reboot production won’t fall to the wayside?

Lawrence himself has explained howtheScrubsreboot would be a no-lose situation, since everyone that would need to be involved is more than happy to come back to Sacred Heart. When speaking with Variety about the upcoming reboot, the writer had nothing but great things to say regarding his excitement about the throwback project:

“I thought about it a lot, and I think the main impetus is selfish. It’s that we’re all friends, and we enjoy spending time together, and you may’t meet a writer or an actor or actress on that show, a crew member, that didn’t count that as one of the highlights of their career. And so all of us were like, even if it’s just that, why not do it again? And that’s part of the fun.”

The project seems to be making for a great production in which old friends come together to honor their past work with a modern spin, which is all an audience can ask of a reboot.
