Netflix has released a new trailer for the two-hour series finale ofSense8, which launches globally onNetflixJune 8. This finale follows the cluster as they all reunite one last time for a final mission, in hopes that love will conquer all. In actuality, though, not all of the Sensates will come back together, which is the reason for the remaining seven Sensates to join forces once again in the first place.
Personal lives are pushed aside as the cluster, their sidekicks, and some unexpected allies band together for a rescue mission and BPO take-down in order to protect the future of allSensates. The Season 2 finale ended with a big cliffhanger, the abduction of Sensate Wolfgang (Max Riemelt), and when Netflix ultimately canceledSense8, fans were whipped into a frenzy about the show ending with this dangling, unresolved plot thread. Now fans will get the finale they deserve on June 8, which comes almost exactly a year after the show was originally cancelled in the first place.
While Netflix is known for amassing anabundance of original material, they had not “cancelled” many shows until last summer, when they inexplicably pulled the plug on bothSense8andThe Get Down. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos defending the cancellations, stating that a “big expensive show” likeSense8with a small audience is hard to make it work, even within the non-traditional Netflix model where entire seasons debut on the same day.Sense8reportedly cost the streaming service $9 million per episode whileThe Get Downcost $12 million per episode.
Still, fans made it clear enough that they weren’t happy with the cancellation, and just a few weeks after Netflix cancelledSense8, theyannounced a two-hour series finale, to give the beloved show a proper ending. This lead to Lana Wachowski, who co-created the series with Lily Wachowski, to pen a heartfelt letter to the fans, where she revealed that Netflix loved the show just as much as they did, and the fans did, but admitted that the, “numbers were always challenging.” Lana Wachowski admitted to falling into a deep depressionafter the show was cancelled, but now Lana and Lily Wachowski get to end the show on their own terms.
The trailer shows a lot of footage with the remaining Sensates together, but ends on a rather ominous note, with a masked man, who may or may not be the mysterious BPO “Chairman,” pointing a gun at Wolfgang’s head, but surprisingly shows an angry Wolfgang telling him to pull the trigger. Capheus (Toby Onwumere), Kala (Tina Desai), Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Riley (Tuppence Middleton) , Sun (Donna Bae), Will (Brian J. Smith) return to for the final season, along with Whispers (Terrence Mann) and Jonas Maliki (Naveen Andrews). It remains to be seen how much more footage will be released between now and June 8.
