The surprisingly triumphant return of beloved video game iconSonic the Hedgehogis now not far away, and a set of character posters have sped into view to hype the imminent sequel,Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Released via the movie’s officialTwitteraccount and featuring the title character doing what he does best, running really fast while looking oddly smug about it, the posters also tease the introduction of fan-favorite franchise characters Tails andKnuckles, with one set to assist Sonic while the other aims to hurt him.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2will also feature a wide array of colorful characters, withJim Carreyreturning as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, a mad scientist, and Sonic’s archenemy; James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, the sheriff of Green Hills and Sonic’s best pal (the human variety anyway); and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, Robotnik’s assistant who now works as a barista at the Mean Bean coffee shop. A job which he seems to love, judging by his poster…
The most exciting supporting characters by how, however, are new recruits Tails and Knuckles. Entering the fray in a brief post-credits scene at the end of the firstSonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower will be voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who has been providing the voice for the character since 2014. A young-yet-highly intelligent yellow-orange fox who can fly with his two tails,Tails seeks out Sonic in order to assist him in his battle against Dr. Robotnik.
Knuckles will be voiced byThe Suicide SquadandThe Jungle BookstarIdris Elba, who is sure to provide the red echidna with some serious gravitas. Possessing super strength, Knuckles joins forces with Dr. Robotnik to find the Master Emerald and defeat Sonic. The character often begins as a villain before seeing the error his ways and uniting with Sonic, with fans of the character expecting to see this play out inSonic the Hedgehog 2.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sees Dr. Robotnik’s Return and in Search of the Master Emerald
Sonic the Hedgehog 2picks up closely after the events of the first outing, with Sonic determined to make his mark as a hero and deciding to stay in Green Hills while Tom and Maddie go to Hawaii for her sister Rachel’s wedding. When Doctor Eggman returns from the Mushroom Planet in search of the Master Emerald to conquer the world and exact revenge against Sonic with the help of Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new friend Miles “Tails” Prower set out to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, and starringBen Schwartzas Sonic, alongside James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Jim Carrey,Sonic the Hedgehog 2is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on June 15, 2025. Paramount Pictures are clearly confident in the sequel, with a thirdSonic the Hedgehogmovie already in development.
